Gotta say, the phrase "deeply unserious" is a POWERFUL weapon, I kneel before whichever debate addict lefty trans black belt probably came up with it first. It always works in my experience. My guess is that it's because typically the opposition is TERRIFIED of appearing sincere and/or serious in front of their peers, and/or lib propaganda has taught them that people who are serious about systemic improvement are dangerous and frightening.

Like really, is the response "uh no I am actually very serious" gonna work? NO, the unstated truth among these people is that nobody is really serious about any of their stupid fucking team sports west-wing-ass ideologies. It's the GAME. They know it's true that they are indeed unserious, and so they have to take some time to establish that this tryhard lefty fun police dickhead just came in and said "I'm not playing the game." By that point the lefty has probably left the discussion though, so while it is frighteningly effective, like all debate owns it accomplishes nothing. Still fun though tbh

If you're calling someone "deeply unserious", then it is as recognition that a person's words and actions lack any serious rigor. It is not a death wish, it is a recognition of irrelevancy. A person accurately labeled as "deeply unserious" is not worth paying attention to. That stings worse than any death wish, to the point where they would rather think of it as a threat on their life.

To me, "deeply unserious" sounds like something that would be said either by or about Christopher Hitchens.

Communism is when you are serious. The more serious you are, the more communist it is

Dialectically, this person is exactly right; existence viz the process not the quality, is the single most serious thing in all existence, possessing a self-reifying essence. In denying their seriousness, you're denying them their essence and their thing-in-of-itselfness, more or less atomizing them into a sort of ontological foam. A rhetorical equivalent of a Wellian heat ray.

Correlate that with the reinforcing and supporting nature of the relationship that the rhetorical and ideological superstructure have with the material base, such rhetorical annihilation must surely be followed by the physical equivalent.
