Certainly not in a way that is presented to be respectful and demonstrating equality between the leader and the poor. The bourgeois state might do photo ops of the leaders visiting the poors but the leaders will be presented as white saviours gracing the poor with their presence.
The poverty will be glossed over with terms like "disadvantaged community" and be interspersed with inspirational uplifting stories about how someone from that community got a Pell Grant and operated a successful business for over three years. The underlying ideological message is that poverty is ultimately to blame on the individual poor people who could just do what this guy did and pull themselves up by the bootstraps.
PS: About drinking poor people's water, didn't Obama refuse to drink a glass of water from Flint, while also doing fuckall to fix the water supply there?
No he drank a glass in front of a town hall that was 100% bottled water. He also took a dip in the gulf coast after the BP oil spill
China never should've abandoned sending pampered city dwellers to the country side to experience some hardships.
Ultimately the goal should be to eliminate hardship in the countryside as well as in the cities. Until that happens it is good to share the experiences though.
