The social contract of modern western politics is to promise the homeowning, treat-consuming classes that you will be mean to people who are worse off than they are on their behalf.

This is like if the government made a program to provide sex education to teens, it had a small provision to provide condoms, the media said that the admin was funding teen brothels, and the admin immediately pulled the entire thing.

No one actually cares about "saving money", in America that doesn't matter, this is pure culture war and race baiting as usual

It does. People will make crack pipes, this just means they're not smoking it from tinfoil or an old pop can

this is was also about giving everybody their own crackpipe so that people don't have to pass it around. minimizes risk of infection. same goes for snorting drugs, it's always better when everybody has their own, clean straw (not some grimy dollar bill)

I kinda saw this destined to fail from the moment I saw it.

Like it should be a thing and preferably paraphernalia should be decriminalized anyways (alongside a robust free drug rehab system and decrim and legalization of all drugs) but this country is so fucking dumb that any attempt to prevent death is an affront to their horseshit puritanism.

Like they want people who use and are addicted to drugs to die, and preferably in a painful and humiliating way.

Did anyone really expect Biden/Harris to risk their shrinking support base of suburban NIMBYs scared off by accusations that Dems are spending their tax dollars on crack pipes?

I read this article a couple weeks ago: archive.today • The Disillusionment of a Young Biden Official | The New Yorker. It's about Biden's immigration policy. Nothing in the text would surprise anybody here but it was a reminder to me that there's surely a bunker mentality in the White House because we live in an insane era and it's an election year.

Probably every single person who could suggest stuff to Biden even 2nd or 3rd hand is a political operative. I'm shocked the plan wasn't killed months ago. Centrist dems don't even pretend to have empathy in private.

there are all kinds of chud tumblrs. it's much harder to get banned than twitter or facebook, but it's also easier to curate who you see, so harder to troll people.

like i understand why this isn't a contradiction for an ancap, because they don't care about how drug users are treated (in either sense of the word) per se. they'll drop the pretense of humanitarianism at the first pushback because their explicit position on everything is it's fine as long as the government isn't involved. but what i want to know is why do they think other conservatives are mad about this? like have they noticed that "legalize crack" is the opposite of the mainstream conservative position (as well as the hardcore conservative position)?
