    In the narrow category of current US electoral politics, sure he has a point regarding the democratic strategy on race. Historically the borders of whiteness have expanded and contracted according to the political situation.

    I think the Dem’s fuck up here has more to do with taking minority voters for granted, and subsequently failing to turn them out/losing voter share. I think the projection that Latino or Asian voters will identify with whites as they become “successful” assumes a kind of social mobility that hasn’t existed in the US for some time. The middle class is shrinking in absolute terms, so the idea that enough minority voters will move into this category to significantly shore up a white minority in the future seems far fetched.

    More broadly though, I’m skeptical that the conservative movement in this country is actually moving towards an expansion of whiteness. You could argue that Trump actually represents a backlash against such an expansion. The GOP has doubled down on racial repression, voter suppression, and restricting nonwhite immigration. Maybe some minority voters will move towards the GOP, but it doesn’t seem to be a core part of the GOP’s strategy rn from what I’m seeing.

    Yeah might be that, or might be dems not offering anything to anyone except the millionaires and billionaires thus depressing the vote, as the elite intended.
