I have 3 that I still regularly think about.

the first: my friends were making fun of me at the dollar theater by comparing my name to an erection. this cop was hanging out in the lobby as well and decided to join in. like was he trying to impress the 10 year olds or what

the second: I got pulled over riding in a friend's car in high school because they hung out in a park where people did weed a bunch so the cop recognized their car. this dude busted a u turn on a residential intersection to follow us. he tails us for a few miles until we decide to pull off and force him to make a decision whether or not to stop us, which is a pretty shitty idea looking back on it

anyway he turns on his lights and starts interrogating a car full of 16-17 year olds. when he moves to me I ask him "am I being detained" and he says no so I hop out and start walking. unfortunately I decided to come back because the girl I liked was still there. he asks to search the car and they say yes for whatever reason. he finds a roach hidden in the back seat cushion and comes up to me and says "now you're being detained" because i was the only person he thought he could charge as an adult. he cuffs me and i'm in the back of the car knowing it's bullshit but also that I'm powerless in the situation.

after crying her eyes out for a while the driver admis it's hers so he has to let me go and call her parents. I walked for an hour and a half back to my house as the sun was rising and decided I really just didn't like cops much

the third: I got pulled over after going to the store for jalapeño chips and pineapple soda, yes I was high. I had a warrant for not renewing my plates so I knew shit was gonna be bad. luckily I was right down my street so I parked my car at home. I asked my mom to take my stuff inside and told her my new plans for the evening before I was cuffed.

the cop took me to the local jail and I sat in the cell feeling like a hardened criminal listening to the dude in the cell with me crying and calling his parents 20 times before trying to sell out his sister's boyfriend for selling drugs. like he was trying to cut a deal between sobs because he got arrested for hitting his sister. anyway the cops held me for about half an hour before they told me the ticket was written by a sheriff so I would have to go to the county jail. for a fucking expired license plate.

around 2 AM a guy loaded me into a van to go to the county jail and when I got there they did all the standard booking stuff like fingerprints and mugshots then had me sit in a room watching some awful movie and they offered me a meal which consisted of a bologna sandwich, refrigerated tortilla chips, an orange and orange drink. I gave most of it to some guy who was nice enough but I kept the drink for myself. around 4 AM I sign a piece of paper saying I'll go to court and they let me go. it sucked in the moment but I'm weirdly grateful to have personally experienced how bad jail sucks, even in that very limited capacity

anyway sorry I turned turn this into my diary, I just figured if I expect you to share something I should too

Why do you hate our cops so much?

Let me help your shit out. When I was in high school I used to play poker with some older guys, two of whom were cops. They supplied the pot, cocaine and beer that they had taken from people they busted and high school kids. They busted a lot of kids I knew and were always fucking assholes. No big deal.

When I was in college, there was a celebration after a college basketball game. People were going crazy. Some drunk guy ran off the cliffs in Isla Vista. My friend ran to tell the cops and in return, they beat the living shit out of him and broke his arm and clavicle. He won $125,000.

When I was in college in Isla Vista, someone broke into our apartment and stole a bunch of small shit. The cops said they caught the guy, a black guy, and all we had to do was lie and say we had seen him casing out our place. We didn't.

Another time in college, there was a small riot going on in Isla Vista. My friends decided the best thing to do was to stay inside and watch tv. One of my friends was putting peanut butter on a piece of toast when three cops crashed in the door, ran in, and beat the living shit out of my two friends. In their apartment.

When I was going to school in San Luis Obispo, everyone would congregate at a Taco Bell starting at midnight to eat shitty food. The guy in line in front of me was drunk. He thought he was owed more in change, so he grabbed the glass windows and pulled on them, shattering them. The cops were called and the taco bell shut down. I saw the asshole getting into his car while the employees were talking to the cops. At 18, this was the last time I would ever initiate speaking to a cop. I walked over and said, "Hey, the guy who did it..." The cop responded, "Shut up I will get to you when it is time." The guy then got into his car and drove off. At which point I said, "He's gone now." And walked away. I was then hit in the back, dragged across a parking lot by my hair and slammed agains a car. My friends, who were climbing into the car, were also hit and attacked. One suffered permanent back damage because he was slammed into the side of a car door. They charged me with swearing at a police officer and disturbing the peace. The judge admonished them.

When I was living in San Luis Obispo, we had a crazy guy living across the street. He had a crush on one of my roommates girlfriends. We had to order him out of the house during a get together. He went across the street and pulled out a revolver and stood looking at our house on the sidewalk. We called the cops. He turned out to be one of those volunteer dickheads who rides around with cops. They allowed him to stand outside of our house day after day, night after night, whenever in the fuck he wanted, holding his revolver.

At that same house, we had a party. The cops came and broke it up. My friend Jesse was too drunk to drive. The cops asked if he lived there and he said no but he was staying the night. They ordered him to leave. He said he was too drunk. They physically put him in the car and told him to turn on the engine. They then arrested him for drunk driving.

When I was living in LA, a neighbor punched a woman who lived in our building in the face outside on the street. The cops arrived. The puncher was an ex Iraq vet. The woman had done nothing and I had seen the entire thing. The guy explained he was a vet. They arrested the woman for assault.

So, why do people hate cops? Because a shit load of them are fucking assholes.

And these stories make a judge shake her or his head everytime I'm up for jury duty and dismiss me.

I don't want to share the more personal ones, but one cop who lives nearby is more or less an open neo-nazi. I'm pretty sure I've heard him say the 14 words.

Getting kettled/tear gassed at protests and having a riot cop swing at my ankle with a nightstick are certainly the worst (he missed in his over-enthusiasm, thank fuck), I wasn't leading some defiant antifa charge or anything, they just decided to start forcing people to move down the street by trying to smack anyone at the back of the crowd.

Less scary but more weird honourable mention goes to a cop once having a meltdown at me because I was pissing on some stinging nettles in a park (which is maybe a bit greasy but it was the middle of the night and there were no public toilets around - I chose stinging nettles because I assumed people would avoid them naturally, idk) and literally telling me to never come back to the town like he was a sheriff in the old west lmao.

That stinging nettles reminds me of being a preteen little shit where I grew up (next town over)

My cousin and I were dead set on throwing some “M80s” into a portashitter, but we’re too chicken to do it and kept going in and out of the thing lol

Some cop came over to hassle us about acting suspicious and I think I was just like “uh I couldn’t decide if I had to poop or not”. I don’t remember what happened next, but I didn’t get in any trouble so they must have let us go

When I was 19, I was driving to see my then-gf at her school, which was two hours away. I was on the highway, in the fastlane, when I got stuck behind a cop going 72 mph. So I stupidly got in the right lane and passed him, only going about 2 mph faster than him. At the time, I figured he wouldn't pull me over for not even going 5 over, but he immediately turned his lights on.

When I pulled over, he basically stuck his whole head in my window and immediately started screaming at me. "Do you see this badge???"

    "Uh, yes."

"Do you see the words 'State Police' on my car????"

    "Y-yeah..."

"Then why the FUCK did you pass me??? Who the FUCK do you think you are???? Why don't you just spit in my FUCKING FACE??"

"I uh...I don't know. You were going kind of slow and I wasn't really speeding, and I just wanted to get where I was going. I'm sorry?"

Then he told me to get the fuck out of his sight, and don't make stupid decisions like that again.

In hindsight, it was really tame and I was a young white teenager with no record, so it doesn't matter in the big picture. But what a fucking prick.

He was obviously a fucking tool on many levels, and I know you know better now, but people should definitely be fully aware that cops can absolutely pull you over for 1mph over the speed limit, and it should be assumed that they will do this especially if you pass them.

One time had a cop rest his hand on his gun and tickle the trigger as he realized I was telling the truth about my identity and that I was trans. (before I got my ID fixed I looked nothing like my pretransition id). It was actually an extremely long convo and he wanted to haul me in for impersonation. My crime? Not vacating a park fast enough late at night (was like 5 minutes over the end time) cause we were almost finished with a star trek episode. Ended up leaving me alone luckily. I got the impression that since it was two girls around his age he was originally coming over to hit on us or something then got all pissy when we were very disinterested and wanted to finish the show and leave

And the 5 or so times cops interrupted my car sexcapades. Was quick enough to get dressed. Glad one of them didn't ask me to get out of the car cause I was butt naked under a blanket. We were always very far away from other people so honestly the cops were being creepy peeping toms. They had to go out of their way to realize someone was in our car

I used to try and spend a lot of time out of the house in high school bc my parents fought a lot and I hated being home. So I was out one night and was really stoned and I couldn't find anyone's house to stay at. I decided sleep in the car, which I had done a couple times before.

I woke up at like 2 or 3am to fucking blinding lights and this cop yelling at me to get out of the car. The dude searched me and interrogated me and I didn't really have a good reason to why I was sleeping in the car bc I didnt want to tell him the real reason. The cop decides to call like 3 other cops as backup. While we wait for backup to arrive, the dude goes through my entire car (I stupidly let him since I knew fuckall about dealing with the cops at that point, but I knew I didn't have anything on me at least), throwing all my shit and my dad's shit (it was my dad's car) out on the road. Three other cop cars arrive (I guess cops can't carpool), each has their turn interrogating me.

I don't really remember what was said since I was drowsy and still coming down a little bit, but the story I came up with was pretty much that I was out late and I was supposed to stay at someone's house, but at the last minute I couldn't and didn't want to go home and wake up my parents. Something stupid like that. Then the cops call my parents (again I let them cause I knew fuckall) and tell them whats going on, they tell me to go home, and then all four cops leave, all my shit still on the road.

    Fuck cops

        resisting arrest lol

you would think 5 grown adults would just overpower a 16 year old, but nope, they preferred to send 50000 volts through me
