it's honestly not worth it because of how weird the systems are, and how much a lot was streamlined in like literally 40-50 odd years of iterative game design. old school DnD was a niche hobby for ultra nerds coming from tabletop wargames who were expected to just know the conventions of weird dice roleplaying stuff, where more modern editions come at things with the idea that new players should be able to get into this
