    Wouldn't alternative energy sources be really expensive and a logistical nightmare, if not straight out impossible?

      I think the alternatives are liquefied gas shipped by container ships from America. Pretty sure it's prohibitively expensive, which is why I doubt Europe had considered that option seriously and probably only floated it as a bluff.
