I tried selling some tech between jobs when I was hurting for cash. It was a $1500 camera lens, and lenses generally don't depreciate much since glass lasts.

Mostly got scammers trying to scam me, I gave up. Having expensive hobby stuff doesn't immediately mean you can recoup those expenses at will, and especially if it can help you keep your mind off of the homelessness it might be better to keep it.

Not that I'm sure it can replace, but which is more cost effective, this vr set you already own or buying booze or drugs to keep your mind off your condition?

A quest 2 (pretty sure that's what he's got) are like 100-200 bucks on Facebook marketplace.

He's clearly got enough issues to deal with. Why does it bother you if he has something to enjoy while not having a house? If he'd rather keep it then spend a couple nights at super 8 🤷 that's his choice to make.

Edit: they said it was $1000, and he should rent a place while he looks for work instead of having it. (paraphrased)

and $1000 gets you halfway to a month's rent for a room in somebody else's house.
