Women's cloths used to have big ol pockets but they were gradually removed as women's clothing became less bulky and more practical, because god forbid you have bulges because of stuff in your pockets.

My wife and I are basically the exact same size and it's great because we can share clothes. So she's taken to stealing all my jeans. Also, don't have to adjust the seat when I get in the car. So that's nice. Not as nice as public transportation and no cars. But nice.

The elimination of skirt supports has been a disaster for the human race.

You know those huge sideways hoops women wore in the 1700s? The smaller kind are called "pocket hoops" and were perfect for Dogs, small children, arms smuggling, alcohol smuggling, and other popular Feminine pastimes.

Pockets were invented first and were originally worn around a belt.

Well, at least, for women’s clothing. I’m drunk right now and can’t effort post, maybe I’ll look it up later, I’ll see where tomorrow’s adderal takes me.

i could just imagine some caveman dude with a pocket sheath for his club hanging on the side of his fur kilt, making all the other cavemen jealous as fuck.

It took a really long time after the invention of pants and belts that belt-loops were invented. So... A while.

Hard to say, because I think pockets went in and out of style, but at least in Europe i think it was like thousands of years. History of clothing and fashion is fascinating stuff.

As the others said I think that probably took thousands of years. Pockets as we think of them today are a relatively new invention, probably predated by pockets in cloaks, with pouches or satchels or packs predating actual pockes.

On the contrary I want one of the real long ones. Imagine how hard that makes you to identify on camera while doing cool shit, as long as you don't wear it at or around your house and take care as to where you put it on.

i guarantee you stealth capes are impossible. perhaps if you bundled it in a backpack & then threw it on on top mid-route to whatever nefarious deed you were doing -- but you're getting noticed & remembered by every passerby
