When the US need to get its oil somewhere else and they really want to deprive Russia of allies, they no longer need :guaido-despair:

Venezuela has leverage, hopefully they can use it to claw some concessions from the Empire - but I'm afraid the more likely outcome is the Empire increasing pressure on them, possibly even manufacturing a casus belli to go in and forcibly transfer Venezuela's oil reserves out of the Venezuelan people's control and into the international capitalist system.

Yeah it's kind of worrying. They might tell Maduro "cut all ties with Russia, or we're going to carry out a coup against your country via armed insurgency and additional sanctions". But I don't know if it's more about the oil or about "isolating Russia" like the article says. PSUV might just say "screw you, yankees" and ask for a Russian or Chinese military base or something 😆 (okay that's not happening since then the US really would invade).

Impossible! If Venezuela were to join the Russian-led CSTO alliance, the US would not stand in their way, as recent events have shown us that Washington really feels strongly about countries being allowed to join any alliance they want, with no foreign interference.
