Implying someone could be worse than Hitler in one aspect isnt actually "Hitler apologia". Not even close. But this is still very stupid and very dunk worthy.
Saying someone's worse than Hitler isn't necesarily Nazi apologia but the way this tweet does it is.
First of all there's the unforgivably ignorant at best falsehood that the Nazis didn't kill "ethnic germans". Not counting german jews as "ethnically german" in the first place is antisemitism and Nazi ideology, but the Nazis also considered anyone queer, disabled or communist untermensch who needed to be murdered, and erasing their suffering to whitewash the Nazis legacy is disgusting.
Second, the assertion that Putin is worse than Hitler because Hitler didn't kill people of his own "race" reveals an implicit belief that killing people of the same race as you is a worse crime than killing people of a different race, is incredibly fascist and holding up the Nazis (falsely) as better for not killing people of their own race is again Nazi apologia.
I knew Maddow was bad, but I thought she was "just" a mouthpiece whose job was to launder the crimes of the American Empire and its liberal elites as coming from a place of humanity and empathy instead of depraved greed and violent paranoia. I didn't realise there was ideological fascism lurking in the mix.
