The first few seasons of the Pokemon anime were wild.
I kinda like the retcon though - "Pokemon is a universe where people solve their problems with pokemon battles", like it just doesn't occur to people to use anything else. Red tears through Team Rocket HQ and all the grunts are like "he beat us fair and square I guess we gotta stop being criminals now."
That's probably why they have free healthcare and stuff. Lenin became the Pokemon Champion and pressed the socialism button and the bourgeoisie just had to accept it.
I think it makes the world more interesting too. Like I remember there was an episode where some evil dude was going to use a Tyranitar to fuck shit up, and someone just made their Growlithe use Thief Attack to take their Pokeball before they could even release it. It introduces fun ways to solve problems.
ban a cartoon episode for displaying guns
regularly kill 5 year old kids in police raidslole
also be so comically insecure about foreign cultures that you ban the word "rice" and pretend it's a donut
Wonder if one or both were going to be steel type originally
Remoraid is still recognizably a Remington (with the context of its name) and Octillary is still recognizably artillery with its weird little barrel mouth.
I never clocked it I dont really know my guns. Makes complete sense now
yeah okay however "pokemon but you can murder not-pikachu with an assault rifle" just doesn't roll off the tongue the same way
Palworld would be a thousand times cooler if they used this and things like Mantine's under-wing Remoraid Remington turrets to have a proper interpretation of Pokemon organized militarily rather than for sport combat. Like, little monkeys using pistols and big monsters carrying guns larger than a human can wield is valid, but by itself that doesn't use the material a tenth as well as it could be. Are there even psychic types using telekinesis for their weapons or anything? What about Pokemon physically being weapons like Dragapult uses? Some little Fairy Pokemon handling reloading for you? So much wasted potential.
Digimon has deputymon, Yu-Gi-Oh has barrel dragon, Yokai Watch has cupistol, etc. I wonder which creature collector franchise doesn't have guns
