My wife who is a teacher got a text from her district this morning saying “No classroom may require masking, you may only strongly recommend it”. Multiple folks from her school have quit as they’re immunocompromised and can’t tolerate the risk, therefore they’re leaving the field :doomer:
Can’t help but think this pandemic will be the straw that breaks the back of public education in the US (and beyond)
the core has really fallen out from both healthcare and education over weak willed government bending over to fucking piss baby death cultists. you know this shit is gonna be felt for years in those fields
When shit like this happens at the same time as points-at-everything, I can’t help but get conspiratorial. It feels like they’re intentionally trying (and succeeding) to force teachers out of jobs.
what's the end goal there? like, systemic under education is bad for the economy even in the most capitalist brained thinking. this hurts them if everybody has terrible education, and you gotta think they know this right
I do genuinely wonder - is it just the austerity brainworm/market fundamentalism taking hold?
Do they just have such faith in charter schools, etc, and such vitriol for the state that they sincerely believe that smashing the last public institutions will naturally bring improvements?
It feels like such an obviously bad path to take, but maybe they feel so emboldened by nearly 50 years of victories against working people that they don’t expect to ever feel the consequences of their actions.
