I know I am a few years late to this trend, but I did that thing that used to be huge on the internet and took a hammer to a bunch of aluminum foil and it actually worked! I thought it would be terrible, because every guide I found eventually suggested that you bring out your belt grinder and a bottle of aluminum polish, and I am not a metal worker, so I don't have that. Turns out you can get a very satisfying ball of aluminum with just the foil, a hammer, any kind of flat surface to work on and some toilet paper for polishing.
It's shiny and I made it and I can use it as a stress ball by just tossing it from one hand to the other and feeling the satisfying weight. I love it!
no, i could have sworn it was from a video game. like some kinda rpg where you had to "interact" with an orb, and the first few times you did so the prompt was just "contemplate the orb"...but maybe i've totally invented that memory
I think you're right (page won't load for me but it looks like maybe the image and text are sourced from an old LOTR RPG)
Yeah, it's from an old LOTR Rpg book. It's inguess supposed to be Saruman and one of the Palantiri but there's also a hobbit in the background creeping up on him and that never happened.
This is exactly one roll of aluminum foil. How much that is may vary depending on the size of the rolls where you live and I don't know exactly in terms of weight/length. Sorry!
Roald Dahl made a little metal ball out of foil sweet wrappers and it's on display in the Roald Dahl museum in Great Missenden.
Btw I'm on the United Kingdom - Hexbear Tourism Board.
No, but that's mostly because I don't actually have that many rubber bands around. I have seen one made by a friend and apparently they just get more and more round the larger they get, limited only by the shape of individual rubber bands making it impossible to form a perfect sphere-
I want to touch it and rub it and this just looks like heaven for all my sensory needs.
Touching and rubbing my ball is pretty nice. You could make your own!
As heavy as the roll of foil it's made from, but much more compact. Around the weight of a small can of soda.
How big was the unpacked foil ball? My autistic child self compulsively collected the foil wrappers from chocolates from all the weddings my parents made me attend, and I sort of balled them up in my treasure chest. If my tinfoil ball is about a half meter across, do you think it will hammer down to bigger or smaller than your current sphere?
It was pretty big of course, but not half a meter I think. So much depends on how tightly it is packed.
honestly i just love you took the time to create that. with toilet paper no less we do find crazy was to get things done lol.
