:sicko-hexbear: The Hexbear vanguard pioneers the way forwards by being first. I told quite a few people here that we'd see other platforms adopting this over time and that it would go mainstream. Nyeh.
:reddit-logo: are mad about it of course. :trans-gun:
Hey. Discord. Hey Discord. Put it next to the names Discord. Hey. Discord hey.
Seriously tho, genuinely useful feature for any message board or chat. Like idk why :reddit-logo: gets upset over it knowing the pronouns of strangers is necessary for referring to them, even when they're anonymous.
Women and trans people existing is political I don’t make the rules :gamer-gulag:
I wonder if it’ll let you have different pronouns in different servers. I’m in some servers with irl friends/acquaintances, but I’m not out of the closet to all of them
yeah, i'm absolutely not going to want to be the same level of "honest" about that sort of thing in a communist server vs a G*ming server vs a school server :oh-shit:
I've gotten so used to it here that I forgot it's not already everywhere else
I forgot it’s not already everywhere else
Soon it will be. Hexbear vanguard caused a few smaller sites to adopt it, then Discord adopts it, some other large sites will also adopt it. Before you know it this will become a standard feature.
It showed up on LinkedIn about five months ago.
:meow-floppy:
Do you have the names for those? I’m trying to compile a timeline of social media pronouns: https://hexbear.net/post/178775
Oh god no I'm not that online. I've just noticed it happening several places over time. You see these ideas spread through the crowd over time until they become features that are so standard that it's called out when it doesn't exist.
in my TTRPG we had a glob person whose name was Glob and whose pronouns were glob/glob
Wait, is this an official screenshot? Did someone at discord decide to put "G*mer" and :bottom-speak: in their profile?
If the Discord employee who put "g*mer" in its profile is reading this, he should reply with a PPB emote.
Technically fetlife beat hexbear by several years but either way this is good
I didn't know what fetlife was. Decided to google it...
:hentai-free: :volcel-police:
spoiler
It's a kink and BDSM social network
I know but I didn't know if that meant that this person might not always identify as a he or something. Not that you can just refer to them as it. I guess you'd have to ask him.
All praise to the hexbear vg but Facebook did this like a decade ago
