The proposed bargain has always been “no, we won’t really fight corporations, but we’ll defend social progress!”
Well, they’re in charge, the rich are richer than ever, & now people are being charged with murder for miscarrying & it’s illegal to admit gay people are real.
liberals are the most insufferably ignorant people on the planet holy shit

Yanis Varoufakis said this would happen and Hexbear called him too doomer. He was 110% correct. The left was stronger under Trump than it is currently and not only that but it had real momentum too.
The left currently for one reason or another needs an enemy to fight, that is when it is at its strongest, and when there is no enemy to fight it completely loses all electricity. The population must be electrified with something to oppose.
The danger is however that if that "enemy" to oppose is a competent fascist then even one term would be incredibly dangerous and set them up to destroy socialists. Trump was somewhat benign but someone legitimately dangerous would need to be opposed.
I think a very big danger with Trump being viewed somewhat incorrectly(relative to the true believers) as a fascist by liberals is that his defeat reinforces to them that the system works and they can beat fascists via the system.
The left was definitely not stronger, the appearance of the strong left was just disaffected liberals who felt guilty about Trump's rhetoric, now that Biden was in charge we can now go back to Brunch. The people we lost were never in the 'left'
Remember Lenin's words "Better Fewer, But Better".
I'm well aware that's because liberals were pushed into political activity. I'm saying that was better than... This.
I think it's not just the liberals though. I think the actual left is doing less as well. Having liberals telling them to stay calm and be patient all the time actively suppresses the real left. Some are trying of course, but there is less effort and less urgency occurring.
An enemy really has the power to electrify people, the left included.
smh Lenin telling me to join a less lib party, sigh
Is was this exactly that formed the basis for the transition from outright domination to hegemony. If there is no specific rally point then there’s a room full of gas without any ignition
Yes, but not immediately. Biden and the dems doing absolutely nothing while peoples material conditions worsen is going to murder them in 2024 where, if Trump doesn't run or ride in on his personality cult, a more competent fascist will take the presidency.
Trump winning in 2024 is straight up the "good" timeline.
Like obviously it still wouldn't be good but yeah
Yeah, that's the most fucked thing about it, another 4 years of incompetent fascism would delay the worst of it by a little. :doomer:
2017 and 2021 were very different times. Trump mostly rode a wave of lowering gas prices through deregulation, Biden started his term during a pandemic and also after four years of Trump. I think if Biden (or hillary or w/e) won in 2016 and then trump won in 2020, material conditions would be mostly the same.

Bernie called Joe his good friend the whole time. And the whole time we thought he was just hiding his power level but he was thoroughly cucked
Really impossible to know. But Democrats and Republicans govern the same way more or less and we would have had the same material conditions when COVID struck.
