Oh, great, so we've officially moved on from "don't worry, COVID is over" to "why worry, COVID will never be over"

    From the CDC in 2020:

Number of deaths for leading causes of death:

    Heart disease: 696,962

    Cancer: 602,350

    COVID-19: 350,831

    Accidents (unintentional injuries): 200,955

Delta is saying that that today. We should have a poll how long it takes until the CDC is basically saying the same with sciencey language.

I love that a disease that can fuck up my nervous system is just normal now.

The mask mandate on planes was what helped me relax on the last flights I took, so I'm sure it'll be gone soon lol. Why continue to do something helpful for covid 🙃

I'm actually glad the mandate is gone (it was inevitable anyway) because this means you can now wear a valved elastomeric and get 100% protection. They're surprisingly comfortable with the valves, but were previously banned for not having source control. I am much more relaxed with one of those on than with everyone wearing shoddy cloth masks between snacks.

I can sympathize with that. I wish we had a nationwide mask mandate. It's simply my estimation that given the state of mask compliance on planes prior to this, the infection risk isn't much changed and instead it's much easier to comfortably protect yourself. Obviously a horrific policy change for anyone who cannot wear a respirator though.
