They created literal slavemaster beings. Agates. Literally programmed to be the most awful thing imaginable. They created literal monsters. They had a program template designed specifically to be horrible.

And now that the Gem Wars are over, they have no place in the universe. Being literally created with an obsolete and horrible purpose.
I think that was a major missed opportunity to explore someone like an Agate learning how to heal from something like that. If that's even possible. The philosophical implications would be really cool.

I am genuinely surprised /pol/ and other CHUDS rag on steven universe so much, when it is exactly what they want the left to respond to them.

I enjoyed it, but I had to add a lot of headcanon to do that.
At a certain point, Rebecca Sugar left and CN literally hired fanfic writers from tumblr to run the show.
This caused a lot of nuance to be lost and the show became a game of "look how nice my favorite character is, they can do no wrong, but this one? oh this one? irredeemable trash".
Sometimes fans can bring a show back, but in this case its like if you asked southpark fans to write new episodes and were suprised when it got even more racist and bigoted.
Yeah I was following SU pretty closely back in the day and never heard anything remotely like that. Ian JQ left the show to work on OK KO but I thought Sugar was running it throughout
I only watched the first 2 seasons. Why was Steven's mom actually bad or whatever? and did the other crystal gems know?

She was one of the nobles. Instead of confronting them, she faked her death and declared war to free Earth.
She had a lot of patronizing views on humans and instead of confronting her family outright, she might've caused less damage. Then Steven more or less worked to redeem pink's family of colonialists.

Steven's mom was considered a war criminal for having shattered Pink Diamond. However, we later find out that she was actually Pink Diamond larping as a quartz soldier (in fact created the whole Rose Quartz cut of gem just to give herself an alias.
Pearl was her Pearl, and was made to help fake PD's shattering so she could live on earth as Rose Quartz forever. PD gave her a magically binding order to prevent her from ever talking about it, so none of the other gems knew (and Pearl of course has A Lot of issues in part due to that).
This caused the other three diamonds to retaliate by trying to wipe out all the rebel gems remaining on earth.

She also was given a gem called Spinel as kind of a jester/pet/servant, then got bored of her, then told her they were playing a game of "stand and wait" and left her on a deserted asteroid garden for like 5000 years
These Diamonds sound an awful lot like the Dominion... They aren't worse then them right? Right?
