We will be honoring the Citations Needed podcast’s desire to shutter the sub.
We have absolutely nothing to do with the Reddit and have no idea who moderates it. Haven’t visited in years, would appreciate it if they’d stop using our name but not much we can do [1][2]
To clarify the situation and add context to how the principals of this project operate: At no point did CN attempt to reach out. The concept of taking action, in this case just basic direct communication from a group whose vocation is communicating wasn't considered. Or, perhaps more cynically, performative “our hands are tied” verisimilitude was preferred.
The frustration is compounded by our knowledge regarding the significant amount of traffic we drove to their Patreon during the first few quarters and well beyond. This may explain why someone who almost exclusively engages with high traffic users on social media surreptitiously decided to respond to a brand-new account making a very generic "I need to speak to the manager" request; to establish separation but not too loudly as to disrupt the free labor they've benefited off of for nearly a half decade. Or they decided to casually mislead a random twitter user without further calculus or clarification.
Despite this we do wish them the best of luck and continued success with Citations Needed. Similarly, we implore the audience to critically evaluate how you spend your time and resources on various leftist projects, particularly those focused exclusively inside the media landscape.

imagine shutting down a subreddit because the podcast you're named after doesn't like it
Now that you mention it, this might as well be a call to Brownpost until the sub gets quarantined anyway
is this really what is happening i genuinely can't make sense of this stuff. it reads like subreddit mods don't have enough neurons firing in their brain lol. the first paragraph reads like nonsense to me lol
maybe, but i was just making a joke about the ex-subreddit associated with famous left-wing podcast chapo trap house
It all reads pretty clearly to me. Essentially, the podcast people said on twitter that they would prefer if the subreddit didn't use their name. The subreddit mod, who sees the sub as valuable free advertising for said podcast, basically said "ok then fuck you, we wont use your name / advertise for you anymore, im shutting it all down"
That's some Karen "I'll just take my business somewhere else" shit from the mod. The sub isn't even that active. Even if it was, no one finds the sub and decides to listen to the pod. It's the other way around.
wut. There's like no information on this post. The "context" they added is gibberish to me. This person is basically claiming they're shutting it down because some liberal got mad at the subreddit for not following western propaganda and the CN twitter basically said "oh it sucks of they're spreading fake stuff" so the mod is shutting the whole thing down!? Seems like another clown moderator. You aren't even allowed to write comments on the post, 8 comments were auto-removed for some reason. Seems fishy, like all reddit-related goings-on. Like they're not allowing discussion even though they never even received a request to shut down. Absolutely no reason to do that out of the blue.
Yeah it's super sus. There's a full court press against the online left right now.
Capital needs this win. The US is about to lose its global hegemony and :porky-scared-flipped: and :cia: are working overtime to manipulate public opinion.
Which is sort of good because they've also been terrible at it lately and there are cracks showing in the dam.
Admittedly, I've been surprised by the wall to wall consent manufacturing and how quickly normies got in line.
Me getting called a tankie by some lib with a coexist bumper sticker practically throwing up a n*zi salute for azov while they gesticulate about nuking the Slavic hordes because putin gaykissed dumpf in 2016
:mao-wtf:
Be an anarchist
Reject imperialist propaganda
Get called a tankie by radlibs
:yea:
And you all said posting never amounted to anything. We're at least getting the same treatment as a 7 member church food drive org.
And just like the last time, in their attempt to crush left the only thing capital did is ending up with strengthening fascism.
(:same-picture:)
I wanna know what drugs reddit mods are on to write spiels like this cos I want some.
I used to be a reddit mod, and getting to the point of writing self-important spiels like this is easier than I want to admit lmao
The frustration is compounded by our knowledge regarding the significant amount of traffic...
what listening to the big words podcast does to a brain
good
You shouldn't be on reddit. At best you create an unwitting honeypot that can easily endanger its users, and at worst bots take over your sub and artificially guide threads towards a more reactionary viewpoint. I would not want any project I worked on associated with the website or its active users.
(obviously this didn't factor into the decision to close the sub at all)
lol, salty. imagine if the chapo sub had shut down just because the hosts thought we were gay and cringe.
i haven't heard the latest ep, what caused this? was it just redditors being annoying?
There's a person on the sub who goes into any anti-imperialist post and calls everyone a Russian tankie. That individual went onto Twitter and told CN that their sub was a bad tankie sub and they should clean it up and CN responded that the sub wasn't theirs and that they didn't like that it was using their name.
Anti-tankie poster posted a screenshot of this interaction on the sub.
imagine if the chapo sub had shut down just because the hosts thought we were gay and cringe.
Didn't we change the site's name because the then-current admins decided Chapo was cringe?
I agree with OP I thought this was really weird when I saw it, not 👁️weird just a person being weird.
But honestly, that sub was shit. Like no posts except for one person that kept spamming Chomsky videos
But if everyone saw chomsky, the whole world would change! Material conditions mean nothing!
It looks like someone made the mod so mad in this thread that they closed the sub all on their own shortly after. lmao
Oh so the weirdo who started @ing the hosts is the same dipshit who keeps posting on the sub about the left having a Russia problem etc. Literally just some lib wrecker who only knows how to respond to people with breadtube links.
I guess this mod is so tired of removing their bait and bad faith posts that they’re having a reddit moment.
Yeah, unsure how banning the wrecker wasn't the correct solution.
:freeze-peach: ?
