Spreading a little love and positivity on this killer Tuesday morning. Plants are finally blooming and there is no need for any layers outside today! Anything cool and exciting going on for you?
Saw my doc this morning, plan is to be off phenibut completely in a few weeks - down to 1.5g/day now, down from 9. Had an EKG done that came back with good results. In cooler news, band is booking our first tour! Gonna head out east.
Sending love, good vibes, and solidarity to all :soviet-heart:
Yeah there's just a kind of endless train of :agony-deep: these days.
Feeling better than I have in a while. Fully in swoletariat mode and spending all of my time lifting and running. I'm up ~6 lbs and I'm feeling stronger and better every day. I still have some chronic back pain that I'm trying to rehab though so that drives me nuts a lot of the time. And some wildly weak muscles from doing heavy things at work with only one side of my body so one of my shoulders is significantly weaker than the other.
I took my dog to the vet the other day and he's extremely healthy and in fantastic shape so that's been a huge boost. I love that little dog so to know I'm doing a good job taking care of him means the world to me.
Also getting ready to ask for a ~70% raise at my job or I walk which would massively fuck over the business so I'm hoping that my leverage is good enough since I'm indispensable. Worst case scenario there's other bullshit jobs making a similar amount to now, so fuck it.
So glad to hear you and the pup are doing well, and good luck with the raise! Keep us posted!
Not too bad, all in all.
I saw my dad walk and smile last week, the first time since January, when he fell ill from COVID. From being told he wouldn't survive to getting his personality back is a hell of a leap, and I couldn't be happier. He's only just entered the rehab unit too, so he'll be there for at least a few more months! On the other hand, his work keeps on emailing me to ask when/if he'll be coming back. I keep forgetting to ask the doctors because I have a head like a seive, but it just feels pretty craven too.
I've been talking to a woman recently too, and I'm pretty sure she's into me. I've known of her for a while, but we only started talking properly these last few months. She's adorable, and gives the best cuddles :Care-Comrade:
Unfortunately, she also cancelled a date with me this last Saturday :shrek-pixel-despair:, but she is a full-time carer for her grandmother and has a lot going on, so I guess that's understandable. She apologised afterwards, and she wants to meet up again :quagsire-pog:
It might go nowhere, but I'm still excited. I've never had a girlfriend, or any type of romantic/intimate relationship before, so I feel like this is kind of a win either way!
This is turning into quite a long post, isn't it? Never mind.
I had to do some safeguarding training at work the other day, and it brought up loads of memories about how I was bullied at school and how the teachers either didn't do anything to stop it, whether they realised or not. I have a draft of a post written up that I was going to put on c/mentalhealth or chat, but I'm not as angry now as I was when I wrote it, so I'll probably leave it.
That's me done!
SO glad to hear about your dad, comrade. My own father has his health issues, so if you ever need an ear, im around. Good luck with the date! Proud of you comrade!
Thank you!
Congratulations on the tour, as well. I'm a musician too, and I have only been outside of the city to play once (it was a really cool gig, though). I've got a few different projects on the go, so hopefully I'll be doing it more often in the future.
I hope you and your dad are feeling alright today!
Thanks! Nothing is set in stone yet, but initial emails have gone out and contacts have been made. Just looking to do an 8-9 day run, nothing too crazy. Booking is just SO much work.
Congrats about your dad’s recovery!
Thank you! As I said, I was fairly sure this was a death sentence for him, but he has defied all of our expectations.
And I’m pretty sure if you’re getting any kind of cuddles from this person you’re talking to they’re definitely into you, lol
I certainly hope so! She's gone away for the week now, but we'll talk more when she gets back. Exciting times!
I'm tired and a chronic medical thing is bothering me but also feeling good about work, organizing, and life in general. Also got some killer finds at Goodwill.
Glad things are looking up for you, too, comrade, and thanks for asking!
Some clothes and stuff, like a fancy boi shirt that's very comfy and usually costs $140 that I got for $7. Favorite item is a nice tea mug with a fancy metal mesh strainer that I remember wanting many years ago. Usually $30, got it for $3 and have been using it every day!
Don't sleep on Goodwill!
Fond memories of working at one back in high school. Good stuff, glad you're excited!
I've been on a monthlong taper from bupropion and fluoxetine. I've been taking moderate dosages for about 5 years now and had the sneaking suspicion it wasn't really doing anything anymore. I decided to ease off just to see what my physical symptoms would be and ended up stopping completely. I'm feeling surprisingly good except for brief periods of dizziness and emotional variability. So far no suicidal ideation. I'm also getting back into gourmet mushroom cultivation (also considering medicinal mushrooms to experiment with microdosing) and starting up a mini herb garden on the balcony. And I just finished my first batch of makgeolli in a while; it turned out okay but probably could have fermented longer. Overall, life's looking pretty decent.
Thanks for checking in! Glad things are going well for you, too. :)
That sounds amazing, great work! I'm sure the nephew will love it!
Staying at an Airbnb for a friend's wedding (which may or may not happen lol), but the apartment complex is doing inspections for the next few days so I can't use my volcano to get high :ooooooooooooooh:
Also really worried about Riley; her recent edit has an awfully final tone to it :(
Oh no! Its been years since I've used a volcano, but I remember the smoke being not too bad?
@riley please chime in and let us know you're safe!
Yeah it's the best way to use cannabis IMO. Not too big a deal though, just gotta wait until the end of the workday before pulling out the reefer again, and I have a vape pen to tide me over, luckily.
Hope your band's tour goes well! Would love to catch a show of yours (I live in the northeast) but I'm guessing posting the tour schedule would be too much of an opsec risk :(
I'm more than happy to talk about it if you wanna DM me. Hell, especially if you know venues or promoters in your area, then PLEASE reach out to me. Nothing is in stone yet, so I'll take all the leads we can!
Also very concerned about Riley. I tried reaching out after that edit, but haven't heard back
Suffering from ongoing chronic hernia mesh related pain. Not well at all.
Sorry to hear that comrade. Sending love and good vibes :soviet-heart:
I know I shoukd be stressed about finals and getting a job and I am but not as stressed as I should be? Which is actually pretty great :shrug-outta-hecks:
I've taken 2 finals so far, my mycology final i feel good about and definitely will do well overall in the class. I feel awful about my microbial physiology exam I just took but even if I do fail the class I have 2 backup plans so it won't be the end of the world. I have my last final tomorrow and I think till go okay.
I applied to a job that my friend got hired at and the interviewer has rescheduled my phone interview twice now, after missing the original call time and me having to email her :/ theres still an in person interview and a drug test if I do well whenever the phone interview happens :///
Glad to hear you're feeling good about the finals, and wishing you well on the job search! Been looking for something new for a while myself, we'll find what we need in time!
interview and a drug test
a drug test...? Is that normal in america(assuming that's where you live)?
It is where I'm from and at least in my state and industry it is. Weed is illegal here but like all the surrounding states have legalized it so they test more often here :/
they do drug tests because of weed??? That's just bizarre, I never had to do drug test to get a job. TIL
I guess its not entirely because of weed but if you test positive you're definitely not getting the job lol. Most entry level jobs are like that unfortunately :/ this one doesn't even pay a living wage and you need a bachelor's for it
We are doing ok! The corgi is as snuggly and affectionate as ever and ready to spread the word of Chairman Mao.
That's great you're going out there and creating and practicing your art! And I'm glad your health is looking good.
I just sent a short story collection in for consideration at a place for authors without agents, so that's exciting.
And in general, I'm feeling much more confident with myself as a writer. For the first time, I looked into writing articles for magazines I like or read. I feel like I'm getting practice in by vibing with my people here on Hexbear.
Also you're not gonna catch me.
I GET YOU ONE DAY YOU AND THE SPARROWS
Bit aside, good luck on the submission! Glad you're putting yourself out there! Thanks for checking in comrade :stalin-heart:
Good luck with your submission! I've also been trying to get into writing short stories, though I've been having trouble getting something I feel even satisfied with and I'm not sure how to progress.
Also until this post I didn't fully realize how many of us were birds, but now that I think of it there are at least 4. I think we should start a club. A flock, if you will
Forgot the brain meds this morning which put me in a funk that I decided to day drink away. I like a nice day drink, so I'm not really mad at myself or anything, but I am struggling against the protestant work ethic propaganda that still lives rent free in my head and feelings guilty about not doing more work.
Feel you. If my heart palpitations get bad enough, I'll be unable to focus or accomplish much of anything.Fuck the protestant work ethic and have another drink for me! Gonna down a handful of edibles when I get home and walk the corgi.
In the process of moving into and living in my grandparents house, and setting up a vegetable garden. I tried starting seeds in some damp paper towel until I got enough starter pots and got worried when it'd been a few days with no sign of life, but I looked today and literally all of them have little roots forming. The goal is to grow more than I could possibly need and give away/preserve the rest to build up a sort of community-wide free pantry, since the nearest grocery store is nearly an hour's drive away and inaccessible to a lot of people here due to low income and isolation.
If anyone has any ideas/information on how to start a small library/book club/afterschool tutoring program that'd be useful too. My mom volunteers as a board member for our community centre that is really desperate for people to actually go and participate in stuff there, so I'd probably have a space to host it.
I'm pretty much just brainstorming at this point. Food insecurity and lack of education are two of the biggest problems here (I know multiple people who don't know how to read and most kids around here are at a lower reading level for their age compared to the rest of the country iirc) when it really doesn't have to be. This community is small enough that a handful of people could have a huge effect, someone just needs to do the organizing
Wait Holy shit I'm living the plot of stardew valley, when do the junimos show up
Hell yeah, love to see the praxis, comrade! Sadly, I'm not of any help here, but rooting for you!
rooting
Post about gardening
There's a :kelly: joke here somewhere
And thanks!! Good luck with your tour, I went on a small local one with my friends band as "the guy with a covered truck" a few years back and it was a lot of fun!! I hope it's a great one!
I assure you, any pun was unintentional. And thanks! Yeah, I've only done one once before with my punk band, and I remember that booking it was miserable. That seems to not have changed at all.
