This would be fine if it was one of 100s of bills that improve people's quality of life that they passed. But it isn't, and is only passing because there isn't a "loud commercials" lobby able to stop this, and it makes congress people look like they're getting something done.

How about stopping spam callers from bothering everyone? Or fixing healthcare, the climate?

I bet this one goes through, but I also thought they'd have made legislation to stop the spam phone calls everybody gets now.

Since they already spy on all phone calls, everyone gets these calls and hates them, and the type of companies that make those robocalls wouldn't be paying congresspeople to stop a law banning it. But I guess they're really that useless or can be bought off cheaply.

This is like that moronic bill from whatshiface Kennedy III when he was a house rep that said that no one should be forcefully evicted from their apartment during a pandemic without having their lawyer present. Like it's technically a small attempt at solving the problem, but you are left with a massively sour taste in your mouth afterwards, since it is the usage of government power to solve a problem entirely inadequately.

You would think between this, the overturning of Roe v Wade, the complete failure on climate change, infrastructure bills, and who knows what else (coupled with how quickly the Senate unanimously passed a bill to protect the fucking Supreme Court clowns), libs would recognize their hallowed institutions will not save them and do not care about them

The government obviously can and should walk and chew gum, but yeah, it's just too much to see reproductive rights go down in flames, climate change wreak havoc globally, COVID run unchecked, and then have congresspeople come out with something like this. It would be fine if there were a proportionate response to the rest of it from other parts of government. Better, even, because that means there's enough capacity to both put out fires and make minor improvements. At this point, though, they really do need to set this nonsense aside and focus on at least one of the many, many things that are going to literally kill people if not properly addressed. Anything else will read as parody.

This. Like, if the important shit was being dealt with I’d be all for this. I’ve literally said this should happen before. But I don’t want to hear about them doing pointless shit while refusing to do the important shit.

Remember last week when everyone found out the Supreme court is gonna overturn Roe vs Wade?

I mean it’s a good common sense regulation but it’d be cool if they could do that AND address some of the violently pressing needs of the people like idk housing, food, healthcare .

If they can't get Manchin and 10 Republican Senators to sign it (not a chance) then it ain't happening.

It's actually pretty terrible that everyone here is clowning this. This is something that's pretty important to anyone with sound sensitivities (which includes a lot of people with autism). There are a lot of laws like this that are very needed, another being a ban on aftermarket exhaust systems on cars. They can get pretty close to ear-damage levels and are really distressing to a lot of people, and contribute massively to noise pollution.

Agreed. This may not be as important as a lot of things they could and should be doing, but it’s still good and something that needs to be done.

Also, I haven’t heard anyone talk about banning aftermarket exhaust systems before but oh my god do I wish we had something like that.

It's pretty clear that's not what I'm saying. Why shit on neuro-divergent people for your epic own?

You absolutely are belittling actual things that matter to neuro-divergent people, and any of their families.

And I have autism you fucking moron. So yeah, again, you are. Maybe don't go all le reddit debatelord on random people, you weirdo.

I guarantee you don't know anyone with autism so you don't know or care what could be important.

Your shitty toothpaste commercials and $3000 exhaust system on your 30hp car are not comparable to a "riot". Shut the fuck up.

this is really gonna appeal to the 70-95 demo that still watches a cable TV under their control, but generally picks up the wrong remote and hits [SOURCE] instead of [MUTE] during the JG Wentworth / Jazzy Mobility Scooter commercials.

Another policy would be no car honking noises or sirens on the radio anywhere, because if your driving you could mistake it for other drivers causing a crash.
