Got one of those "we want you to buy reddit stock because you reddited really hard!" emails... on an account I haven't used for six years. When I did use it, I used it almost exclusively on a niche subreddit, too.
They're scraping the bottom of the barrel already
This is in the dunk tank to dunk on me for once using reddit
The IPO email reads like a fucking phishing scam: “we would like extend you an offer to get on the ground floor of an exciting investment opportunity! Please provide social security number in order to get in on this amazing stock!”
Can't wait for the inevitable leak, doxxing the handful of redditors that aren't bots.
I think it's because that's exactly what it is. A scam. You have an userbase that averages around having a disposable income. So you pretend to be giving them an early bird privilege when in reality there's seventeen thousand asterisks attached. No redditor is part of the inner circle of people getting the lion's share of this investment call. Banks pull this all the time, especially in e-finance.
I signed up for it because it said they'd be using a third party company to verify things. I want to take up a slot as long as possible and cost reddit money before I don't buy in.

I do not understand anyone who still uses reddit.
Niche communities? CookieClicker, pointandclick, AskHistorians, Catswhoyell, noodlebones, CatsStandingUp, longcats, etc.
Yeah, I used to post pretty annoyingly on a couple romance novel and queer subs, but reddit is so bad and the userbase is so poisonous that I ended up concluding, I'll Just Simply Go Without
I miss my stupid fucking book subs ffffuckThere are a lot of specific media subs (i.e stuff like Noita or Pathfinder) that don't have an active fediverse equivalent, too.
Sports discussion on Reddit is slightly more tolerable than twitter, news site comments sections, and dedicated forums.
Mainly to discuss transfers, match highlights and whatever drama is going on. The fact that Reddit is the best platform for it, tells you how bleak all the other options are.
You do get some good comments/posts on sports subs; actual attempts at analysis or in-depth breakdowns of individual players. Even some all-timer shitposts.
But any gameday thread is an unending stream of sky-is-falling doomerism unless your team is up by 100, the general discussion about individual teams got more negative and hysterical each passing year, and mediocre memes were increasingly crowding out the shrinking good parts.
Just no vision from the site/mods about trying to encourage high-quality contributions and discourage annoying or grating stuff.
Hey me too! I don't even remember if my account ever got more than 4 figures of karma either.
I think this is a ponzi scheme type of deal, they say it is "exclusive" because that makes it sound fancy, or like a limited time offer, but they've probably sent one out to every account on the website. Some people were calling this a pump and dump, and that's exactly what it looks like.
I also got one of those messages. This shit is going to go miserably lol.
lmao, I got an email on an account I've used like twice, made a single message on, and is like 3 years old. There's no fucking chance I do anything with your stock you desperate losers. It truly has nowhere to go but down.
lol just took a look myself because i don't read replies on reddit and use my account just to browse a few subs and fuck with liberals
they are desperate
same.. i was pretty surprised to get an e-mail from reddit on an account i removed all history from years ago
