Add to the list of shootings in the last day
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two men were killed and three others were critically injured Sunday after a shooting at a crowded flea market in north Houston, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The shots rang out just after 1 p.m. at a flea market near 8720 Airline Drive.
HSCO said two men were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. Investigators said they believe all five people were involved in the disturbance that led up to the shooting. Officials said they all appear to be in their early- to mid-20s and likely knew each other. They do not believe the shooting was random.
As a very doomer brained American my take is that the one yesterday passed the death toll needed to pay attention. I'm 100% sure CNN/ABC/etc has a death count threshold, and it was passed yesterday. The two today would be blips otherwise, but are being focused on more because the one yesterday was over 6 people killed.
Is it weird I'm relieved it's just an old fashioned random mass shooting and not an indicator of the rising tide of fascism?
Interestingly enough, US looks a lot like US in the 1870's. A financial panic (depression) around the corner that would last five years, a gilded age bringing about great wealth for the rich and massive inequality for everyone else, and an intense increase in white supremacist violence after the KKK had been suppressed. So based on that trajectory, there could be chuds successfully performing a coup against Democratic governors and the military being sent to take out labor strikes.
I don't mean to alarm you, but there are daily mass shootings in the USA. Most of the time someone is just injured instead of killed. The ones that get the most notoriety are when 4 or more people get killed. But they happen every single day.
I mean, kinda, but this is also the only country where this shit keeps happening.
Easiest access to guns of any country in the world + 3rd biggest population in the world = most mass shootings of any country. Sounds like simple math to me.
Capitalism does not help. Or does, I guess, depends on how you look at it.

At least in, for example, Scotland, It's in the realm where it's an inoffensive succdem nation that just needs to stop hanging around its toxic friend :ukkk:. I can just grill, do my hobbies, and spend august almost entirely at a beach in Italy and be left alone. I get it Scotland is far from ideal (JK Rowling!? CRINGE!), and has problems like any other country, but I admit I'm a bit of a lib and a succdem country would at least be livable.
