I kinda just think it'll overall be like when Trump was inaugurated: Large, but peaceful, protests that'll eventually and quietly die out.

Maybe a few people will do adventurism, but not on the scale we saw in 2020 with pds being burned down n shit.

I hope I'm wrong I really do, but I just don't think libs have it in them, even over this

this defeatism swirling around here is such a fucking bummer nothing good will ever happen if we constantly wallow in despair and look to what the goddamn liberals are going to do about stuff.

and this is completely vibes-based speculation, my god--the possibility for escalation via pro-life fanatic counterprotests and ever-emboldened and funded (thanks dems!) police is extremely real. the orgs and anger from 2020 didn't disappear, and reproductive rights orgs are serious and popular.

more defeatism? under my anti-defeatist post? its more likely than you think.

like whatever some might be too myopic and liberal to turn out for this but my point is we're not starting from scratch.

I literally am still incredibly involved with the orgs in LA.

They suck ass. They're all busy organizing sidewalk marches to go to the park to vogue for Instagram. Even the "leftist" orgs are too busy whining about language choices and refusing to log off in lieu of endless discord and zoom chats.

This idea isn't originally mine, but it does seem like these mass movements are getting both more frequent and more radical at time goes on. I think when I saw it being talked about (I don't remember where), they were drawing a line from the WTO riots, to Occupy, to 2020, probably with some more in there that I'm forgetting. If Roe doesn't spark off the next one, I think it's definitely priming us for it. As many people have mentioned at this point, if they overturn Roe, gay marriage is almost certainly next on the chopping block. Especially if that happens in the next couple of years while Roe is still fresh in the public's minds, I definitely think it wouldn't happen without some kind of uprising

people on this site are constantly forecasting "material conditions get worse stuff gonna pop off" then in the face of present, major downgrades in conditions they're all like "nah not this time"

I think it's in the left's interest to be prepared for every one of these to be the next big one, even if they don't turn out to be. We need to be ready to jump in straight away and ride it as far as we can, and that won't happen if we give up before the thing even happens. We'll realize too late that there was potential, and by the time the left gets involved in earnest, the whole thing has already been co-opted by the DNC.

If we want a 1917, we need a 1905 first, and that won't happen unless we're ready for it

yup. defeatism is high-calibre liberalism that mutes and destroys are opportunities

i have a suspicion a good portion of dudes here are viewing Roe as some kinda culture war immaterial issue and not an urgent economic concern, and thats coloring this shit about "not Roe but food riots"

As Lenin himself said, “the representatives of the modern labour movement find that they have plenty to protest against but nothing to despair about. Despair is typical of the classes which are perishing, but the class of wage-workers is growing inevitably, developing and becoming strong in every capitalist society, Russia included. Despair is typical of those who do not understand the causes of evil, see no way out, and are incapable of struggle. The modern industrial proletariat does not belong to the category of such classes.”

I think there's definitely a good chunk of the left that goes so far in rejecting liberal identity politics that they discount identity entirely, and become class-reductionists in the pursuit of combating identity-reductionism. And past that point, any issue that effects people based on their identity more than their class is rejected as less important than purely class-based issues. This is what no intersectionality does to a person lol
