I've actually been binging 4k videos of different Chinese cities (probably why the algorithm surfaced this video), and yes Shanghai is very impressive, so is Shenzen.
As a Shanghai resident I think many so called new Tier I city start looking better than Shanghai, you know after 20-30 years things have started to get some unavoidable wearing.
I get that feeling a lot when I'm walking home and realize that outside of the cars and clothing everything would look the same if it was 1970. I keep thinking back to when they made propaganda of people from the soviet union seeing the 1980s US and being shocked except now that's us stuck in all this rot watching modernity arrive elsewhere.
