This is cool and good. Also, the DSA alderman not responding to WGN's request for a quote is funny to me.
100%. Christians will typically go to a Christian book store because, well, they have lots of bibles to choose from. Folks usually have a specific translation in mind they want, or if they want footnotes (a "study bible"), etc. It can be a fairly personal purchase. The idea that she just waltzed into a lefty bookstore to buy one strains credulity.
Most Christian book stores will have the better part of an entire wall covered in various bibles.
A few different major kinds, from what I can find.
Doesn't include subtypes, like study versions/footnoted copies and such, so that means there would be a considerable variety
I had the same thought. What got me was the "to buy a bible" bit.
Not only that, but to but a bigger bible, because she already had one.
The Bolivians should make sure Jeanie Anez is still locked up in her cell, sounds like she might be walking around Chicago posing as a cop. Always in search of a bigger bible.
100% sure this didn't happen and the bible bit is a post hoc rationalization.
went there yday, store employee/owner told me the cop actually did show up, but they think it was probably staged.
If she's even real.
The bookstore not flat out directly responding means, it's VERY possible that the Facebook cop isn't real.
Also not mentioned in the story but visible in the cops whiny post is that deedee megadoodoo walked in strapped (“I was asked to leave because of my equipment”). Then she said she was on duty and therefore allowed to carry. The need to have a piece while buying a fucking bible (lol) perfectly illustrates the rotten cop mindset and why they are banned in the first place, tldr
:brick-police:
I swear we're not far off from the Christian right using the cross, not as as symbol of the suffering Jesus endured for humankind, but like a punisher skull, in celebration that that dirty peace and love hippy got what was coming to him
Changing the words to gospel songs to be about how Jesus sucks to own the libs
How would anyone even know she's a cop if she just came dressed like a normal person while off duty?
this is my local bookstore, it’s good
Always Carry A Book
Damn, with all the Chicagoans on this site maybe we should start our own comm.
Starting our own "chicago school" as a bit to spread communism instead of neoliberalism
I've had the thought of starting an actual Marxist University. Also a burger joint with no employees, only owners. I think there are more things we could do to grow communism than we realize.
As someone with an affinity for burgers and communism, I approve
That would get to close, we'd start to specify things about ourselves and break the general inspecific nature of our posting.
Then any post or comment that mentions anything that could identify someone's location should be removed.
Chicago bookstore owners cracking open a shipping crate like Afghan mujahideen looking for stingers but instead it’s full of :dorner:
Based anonymous man on the street. The rest of his quote at the end is perfect
Literally the two before it just say "one comment read", "another comment read". But with the wrong viewpoint it becomes "said a man who did not wish to be named".
Being in the vicinity of a cop with a gun at their waist always kills the vibe while in a store. They should have a special hour or two in the morning where they are allowed to shop similar to what was done for the elderly in the early days of the pandemic in the US. After that they would not be allowed in any stores
Or just get their errands done when they're off the clock like everyone else.
Seriously, the biggest standout in this news story to me was why is this motherfucker doing their shopping on the taxpayer's dime? I'm pretty sure if I started telling my boss a story about how I was refused service at some store during my working hours, the conversation wouldn't be focused on how unfair and mean the store was.
Or you know just leave your gun in the car. Or come back when you’re not in uniform. It’s that need to constantly intimidate, they can’t shake it
They should have a special hour or two in the morning where they are allowed to shop
Actually, cops should never be allowed to shop, for any reason, at any time.

starving the beast but this time literally :sicko-beaming:
Lmao imagine being a gay cop what a fucking traitor
Then used it for a soap box
seeing as its a chicago local news site thats not surprising lol
It's not the same store, but shout out to the Moon Palace bookstore in Minneapolis. They have the same policy. Also, they're right next to the Third Precinct (the one that burned down) and, during the uprising, they refused to let cops stage from their parking lot or even use it at all.
Based Chicago. Also love the cop pissing over not being let in, what a snowflake.
"A woman, who says she is a cop, who says she's a gay mexican american, says she went to a book shop to buy a bible"
