What have you done for your fellow man?

Well, you see, there was this YouTuber who posted videos about doing philanthropist tourism. And I like, shared, and subscribed. So that means I helped.

What the hell is this guy's deal anyway? Obviously I see his visage from time to time, but I've never clicked... He's just a rich (probably?) asshole(?) who wanted to be famous on YouTube so that's what he throws his money at? Is that it?

He puts his brand on a hamburger that you can only order online, and participating kitchens with excess capacity (e.g. off peak hours fast food franchises) will make it. So the burger is basically a marked up big mac or whopper or whatever and there's zero consistency between regions or possibly even same day orders.

Not only that, but he also has a lot of climate videos about “planting” trees, “cleaning” oceans, all while selling hamburgers and giving away Tesla’s to his friends

He didn't show up out of nowhere. Look on his channel at videos from 8 years or whatever ago. He's the ultimate Youtube tryhard

I don't think they are. Their house looks pretty middle maybe lower middle class. Probably a <150k house (when they bought it) in North Carolina.

Saw this in "my" recommended (who am I kidding it's the same shit for everyone) the other day and was in awe. He literally has a channel called Beast Philanthropy. Shamelessly. Genuinely hope he visits the wrong part of Africa someday and gets in over his head.

These types of Americans are dogs, and therefore should be treated like dogs the way Americans treat dogs

Exactly. Or left in a small room/plot of land, with no agency, and fed nutritional pellets for 8-12 years straight.

Not saying that should happen to MrBeast though. I'm just sick of his shit and would rather he cease to exist as soon as possible than stick around and hog a cell in some foreign prison, in a country he tried to exploit for epic slop-induced clout. But if that does happen to him, I'd be just as relieved.

      some stock photo

it looks like a fake stock photo mocked up in some 3D gfx tool, has that distinctly sort of photo-realistic game engine vibe

it looks like a shitty mobile game. everything looks off. the buildings are plasticky looking, the well looks like it's made from Medieval Castle Texture #2, the water is sky blue, his body looks like City Builder Game Advisor #3, even his face looks generated and fake. it's like the whole picture is carefully designed to game the algorithm.

This is giving me flashbacks to religious volunteers that used to come to my area so they could build churches that we didn't even need. Only good thing the nationalists did was block them from coming here.

    Liv talks Mr. Beast https://youtu.be/3D2U4crkdB0

    Liv:

Something incredibly unnerving about Mr. Beast's new Squid Game video is that it contains exactly what you would imagine it would. No surprise twists, no additions to what it's referencing, no creativity. It's so void of actual substance, that as long as anyone has at least the most vague possible conception of who Mr. Beast and the show squid game are, they already know exactly what will happen in all 26 minutes of it. It's as if the whole video functions as an empty hollow reference to a different cultural product without anything to say about the richer sources of meaning that this cultural product's meant to convey. As if its entire purpose is essentially to say "remember this show that everyone's talking about?"

sorry meant to put this under the squid game comment to give further context

The biggest crock of shit in the world is claiming you give your money away when you're dead, as though you had the option to take it with you.

His content basically boils down to:

      • watching you tubers scramble for some money. Sometimes the youtubers are huge and successful but often times it’s a moderate sized channel
      • pushing the neoliberal idea that a generous benefactor is all that’s needed to make a difference in the world

I’m not saying he’s some stooge for an NGO, but he’s definitely so deep in his wealth that these things are just naturally occurring to him.

i think his building wells thing is way better than his last scooping up garbage from the beaches thing

    • Abraxiel

Wells sound good, especially implying that things are so bad people don't even have water, and they're comparatively cheap. However, they're often not built in accordance with local needs and are frequently too expensive to maintain once the NGO pisses off to do another one.
