Partially this is done by inducting them in to the social networks that will confer them political and economic access later in life. Partially this is done by making them culpable in sanctioned illegal and immoral activity so that they carry some degree of guilt with their co-conspirators.
Not all frats are like that, some are just professional associations or basically well dressed communal living groups, but enough of them are vehicles for reproducing class and class violence that they can be safely got rid of.
Does this mean that a good way to prevent mass shootings it to head to college campuses during pledge week and detain every single frat boy?
