Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)

Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Those who ends up on the Russian side of the be border is probably going to face persecution from the authorities who will be extra vigilant for Ukrainians organising politically

It will be somewhat bad but I think maybe not that bad. Ukraine and Russia relations are deeper and more complicated than short term politics, for example there are probably millions of people with family members of people from both nationalities and who lived in either place in the past in large part due the common USSR history.

Open persecution of Ukrainians in Russia is not such a straight forward thing, they are not simply foreigners form an unknown land across the planet.

I think the ones on the Ukrainian side will have the worst deal. Once this war is over I'd much rather be Ukrainian in Russia than Russian in Ukraine.
