Just let games be games, lol. It's absolutely not a medium that translates well to other forms.

idk I could see Horizon and God of War making for decent source material but Gran fucking Turismo lol? What?

If God of War is by and large a Dad of Boy familial adventure, I might actually be interested.

I could see that languishing in development hell forever, just like the adaptation of The Last of Us.

My mind went there first because, really, there's a lot of similarities lmao

I'd be a bit less interested in that, as a matter of personal preference.

I'd put up with some grimdark gory torture-murder-fucky elements in it because of the source material, but because it's just about everywhere already, I won't see it as an actually interesting feature.

If I were doing it, I would limit that to flashbacks and intentionally juxtapose Past Kratos' extreme violence against Dad Kratos' more restrained approach to problems. Make the whole point be that he's kinda realized that his Spartan upbringing fucked him up emotionally and that he's trying not to pass that on to his kid.

That'd certainly be better than a P R E S T I G E approach, especially an Alex Kurtzman one where, I dunno, Boy is tortured and murdered in a gory way in a cheap one-off gimmick and there's a confusing and contradictory moralistic lesson after nine more episodes.

Top gear but without :ukkk: hosts and actually taking the cars seriously.

Also could do a deep dive into the esports scene

the :ukkk: hosts are what make the show good though (except clarkson, he's not even funny and is just a massive removed)

edit: oh yeah fair enough, yeah that word does kind of have misogynistic connotations, I probably shouldn't use it in future

I thought the appeal of Top Gear was the fact that none of the hosts are particularly good people, but that they seemed to have fun in a way that rubs off on the viewer, as long as the viewer is a cis-het-white-male who doesn't think too much about anything presented in the show.

Also I highly recommend the episode where they go to china, which was made in 2018 i think, after the move to Amazon Prime. You get to see China's progress in real time, and hear Clarkson lament the doom of Britain in particular, since his local street has potholes that are older than half of China's highway system.

It really is lol. Not in like an artistic sense but it is exceptionally good slop if you like motorsports.

The car being both paddle and stick shift at the same time, the track changing from a street track, to a road course, to an oval in one scene, the unrealistic stunts, it's all just :chefs-kiss:

It also has both Sly Stallone and Burt Reynolds. That is a dangerous amount of hot dad energy.

This film has been ruined for me by Bad Movie Beatdown, just hearing that extremely British voice dunk on the physics of this scene.

There are a million ways to make a good racing movie. The fact that the games have no story content whatsoever means you're not creatively bound by anything but "nice car go fast". It's perfect because there's nothing to worry about adapting.

The game director is actually a big racing culture guy. I'd probably watch a show where he interviews and does ride-alongs with racecar drivers.

Because it's a popular brand with a cool name. If I was interested in making a car movie, why not do GT? I'll get a bigger budget. If I was Sony, then I want to grow that brand.
