a lot of people think being shot is like the movies where you get shot and you fall down and just die

for the record it doesnt work like that most of the time because most gunshot wounds are not immediately fatal

while we are on the subject choking someone is not like the movies either where they die as soon as they lose consciousness

exactly, floyd may very well have lived had the police got off his neck once he became unresponsive

being suffocated to death takes a different amount of time depending on how its done. you can suffocate to death by being handcuffed and left on your stomach especially if you are overweight. if an officer is also sitting on you it accelerates the process because your lungs cant expand enough to get enough oxygen or even worse, expel enough carbon dioxide. often times you'll die of cardiac arrest before you actually suffocate though as with floyd and garner because in cases of suffocation the body has time to try and adjust and it does so by overworking the heart

In addition to everything this is a ridiculous strawman. No one's saying "the cops failed because they didn't let the parents run in frantically." The cops failed because THEY are the ones who should have gone in. That statement the one parent made about running in was in response to the cops' inaction.

This right here is the best take. People are like "it was dangerous for the parents so they kept them safe!" and the response should be "why the fuck weren't the cops ensuring the safety of the children and instead just stood around for nearly an hour doing jackshit?". Watching this whole thing go down with people's brains breaking at the realization that cops are shit is just amazing

The realization hits just in time for Joe Bidet to increase police funding everywhere in preparation for the riots.

I know how weird piecing together a firefight after the fact can be, I'm guessing this school is old enough to not have much in the way of CCTV too.

It's pretty obvious the cops were fucking useless cowards though. Mass shooters generally haven't been hostage-takers, I'd have to imagine the written/recorded guidance for law enforcement in a situation like this is to stop the threat ASAP...

It's pretty useless to speculate on this shit since the details are shifting so much as it is, have to hope others will sort everything out. For instance I haven't seen many elementary schools in the US that have internal classrooms without windows, why did they apparently stay in one classroom? According to one eyewitness, someone was killed after some flavor of law enforcement were inside the building and shouted to civilians to announce themselves and if they needed help, so I don't think there was a firearm malfunction or lack of ammunition or anything...

      You are correct.

      From WaPo:

Standard law enforcement guidance since the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado says officers should pursue shooters inside buildings without waiting for specialized backup. Since Columbine, many police departments have trained officers to go after an attacker as soon as possible, to minimize the number of teachers and children shot. Before Columbine, older guidance often emphasized waiting for specially trained officers, such as a SWAT team. The speed and willingness of officers to pursue shooters into buildings has been called into question following other attacks in recent years, including the massacre at a high school in Parkland, Fla., in 2018.

I mean, ALL schools these days have cameras, at least in the hallways. My middle school was built in the 60's and they still put cameras in it years before it was shut down and moved to a new building.
I don't think they'll release the footage, but it almost certainly exists.

I have a friend that does this all the time. Plays devil's advocate. People don't want to hear it. if people are griping to you. They're griping cuz they want somebody to listen to. They don't want somebody to go well. Maybe the other person's feelings are this or that. Nobody cares. They just want to be heard and validated.

I'm curious as to whether or not this is the Michael Tracey I grew up with. I'm gonna choose to assume it is, and then laugh, since that guy was a little nerd too
