Edit to clarify: of course we should be 100% for LGBT+ rights. The whole world should be. But instead of allowing the developing world to find their own footing on socially progressive issues, why should us in the developed West dictate how they should approach the issue, and withdraw support of their anti-imperialist stance just because they just weren’t as progressive as us in certain social issues, not withstanding the fact that the much wealthier, much more developed, much “superior” West - and the ones doing the exploitation - weren’t that keen on LGBT+ rights just 30 years ago?
How is sneering down on savage barbarians for not being “progressive” as we loot and destroy these targets of imperialism not Social Imperialism?
You can make this argument about Iran, Syria, Libya, Iraq. Should they all be destroyed and looted because they have some reactionary social views? The reason to cheer for Russia is that they are anti-imperialists and geopolitical allies to all AES.
They destroyed the imperialist coups in Belarus and Kazakhstan. They ended the imperialist coup attempt in Syria. They are reversing the imperialist coup in Ukraine. In all these cases, they are acting in an anti-imperialist manner and I wish them a decisive and crushing victory.
Not just to “end the war sooner” as some pragmatic harm reduction measure. I fully support Russia’s geopolitical policy because it is good and based.
They are allied to China, Vietnam, DPRK, Venezuela, Cuba. All AES benefit from ties with Russia, and Russia does more to materially benefit these nations than the entire collective western left combined.
I'm not saying that developing countries should care about Russia's lgbt right record. I don't expect fucking sudan to give a shit or whatever. I was responding to what seemed like unironic praise for russia simply because westoids don't like russia. We must own the westoids by stanning a highly conservative capitalist country.
