New Amsterdam is the name slave owners thought of, how about New Leningrad?

Were the Dutch big on chattel slavery? I know they did feudalism, but the AFAIK slaveowners are the ones who renamed it to New York. New Lenningrad is a dope name though.

A lot of Dutch pirates made good money by capturing slave ships and selling the people. They were relatively early in the abolition of slavery, for what that is worth, and did so before England, I think. A fun digression to go down is the number of Dutch pirates who joined the Barbary Corsairs in North Africa basically just because it was easier to fuck over Spanish ships there than it was in the English Channel. A pretty solid number of Dutch sailors ended up in the Ottoman navy out of sheer hate for the Spanish Empire.

They also took over a whole lot of Portuguese territory and were completely happy using slave labour to keep the money coming back to Europe, just through a different port.
