Currently following a queer mom on TikTok who is convinced that therian accounts are being artificially boosted among kids right now as a right wing op to conflate transgender kids with therian kids to make both less palatable to the general public and manufacture a moral panic.
The only unusual evidence she has so far is that she’s already gained several hundred followers on a fresh account just by lurking on therian stuff. It doesn’t prove any of the stuff she’s saying but it does suggest there’s some follow circles and botting happening.
I dunno it’s just fun to watch people go down a rabbit hole sometimes even if it’s really out there. I actually have a kid who says they’re a therian and am just kinda going with it. Getting them a mask to decorate and stuff. Apparently they’re not the only one in their class. It does seem to be on the rise regardless of it being natural growth or not.
I pretended to be a cat adamantly when I was a little kid. Lots of other autistic people I've met did similar things. I learned to mask it but it was still a deeply rooted fantasy I had for myself. It's not some new phenomenon due to "gender ideology" or whatever hysterics are being pushed. As being trans becomes normalized and more accepted, I see it as an attempt to conflate gender acceptance with acceptance of people that society doesn't seem as ready to accept. The good news is that this is yet another sign that conservatives are losing the culture war. The bad news is that ND people are likely becoming their next prime target. They've been testing the waters for a while.
