Alright I was really hoping we were just being wry about this and that it would go away quietly. I guess we're going to do another pandemic now. Except the vaccine is actually a bit harder on your body so the anti-vax people will have fun with that one.

The only people who will ever wear a mask again in the US are the people currently wearing masks. Most people will not, even the good conscientious people who wore them up until a couple of months ago. There will never be anything resembling a lockdown. The only material conditions that could trigger any action is if it actually kills 50% of the infected. And even then it has to be a lot of wealthy people getting infected. Anything below 10% fatality won't even register despite having massive implications for society.

I'm actually expecting this disease to result in people much more diligently following masking/social distancing guidelines because of one reason - it's disfiguring. The long-term effects suffered by those who survive COVID are largely invisible to the general public, but once people see friends and family members with scarring on their faces, they will mask up and keep doing so for a long time.

Isn't this much less transmissible though? Is airborne transmission even confirmed?
