Often times they are shocked that I don’t like America, and when I tell them they destroyed my country and it’s why I’m here, they get uncomfortable because they can’t openly be smug since I’m not white. They’ll say some shit like “I’m sorry that happened. But the US has changed and we’re improving” which usually makes me laugh. Then they just do that patronizing frowny face :powercry-1: and say “I’m sorry you feel that way.” Their civility fetish prevents them from saying “well you deserved it” that’s for sure.
Online though, they don’t care lol. They’ll drop their mask as soon as you annoy them
I find they will listen to you sympathetically and nod along as you recount your experience of your nation being destroyed by imperialism, but then as soon as the conversation is done they will wipe it and go right back to libposting about democracy and rules based order. Nothing sticks. They have an amazing ability to compartmentalize, and to understand that US foreign policy is devastating but also that we should keep doing it
