Often times they are shocked that I don’t like America, and when I tell them they destroyed my country and it’s why I’m here, they get uncomfortable because they can’t openly be smug since I’m not white. They’ll say some shit like “I’m sorry that happened. But the US has changed and we’re improving” which usually makes me laugh. Then they just do that patronizing frowny face :powercry-1: and say “I’m sorry you feel that way.” Their civility fetish prevents them from saying “well you deserved it” that’s for sure.

Online though, they don’t care lol. They’ll drop their mask as soon as you annoy them

As a fellow white liberal I am annoyed by those who derail the original comment with replies that subtly praise their-selves. They have a complete lack of awareness and I am glad I am not one of them. It's all pointless virtue signaling about being one of the woke ones who "understand the plight of the X's" (sic) to an audience who didn't ask for their opinion in the first place.

a lot of them stop talking to me as soon as they realize I make fun of liberals equally as much as I make fun of the hogs.

at least a lot of my hogs will keep being buddies with me even after I tell them every past republican president was as fucking evil as every past lib president - with fun explanations of how evil each of them were.

this absolutely happens to me as soon as i mention im a communist or trans

both are equally scandalous to the average liberal and they go poof. honestly i have better talks with 'libertarians' (re: me no like government and thats all i think about politics) than i do liberals

until i mention that i'm pretty much everyone's favorite perpetually-gleeful-in-platonic-social-interactions tiny woman

I got into a lot of arguments about imperialism. They would usually respond by saying "everybody intervenes in Latin America. They're always fighting among themselves as well."

They also had a huge distrust for the poor that always leaned into racism. The only nonwhite people they approved of were people with degrees and six figure salaries. This was all in "liberal" New York.

The US has stopped "everybody" from intervening in Latin America for nearly 200 years with the Monroe Doctrine

      everybody intervenes in Latin America

What the... WHO?! WHO FUCKING ELSE HAS INTERVENED IN LATIN AMERICA?! Moon Men!? Those angels the Mormons think visited Central America after Jesus died?! Fine, OK the Spanish but they don't count they were the OG imperialists. IT'S ONLY BEEN THE EVIL UNITED STATES you bean-brained libs! Learn something about history other than World War 2 and the slaver founding fathers. God!

(Sorry, I know I'm a white guy who butted in but this made my blood boil)

Explicit racism and for some reason younger liberal white women think they can direct all their racism to Asian people and it just doesn't count???

Yeah and also really hypocritical about getting offended at racism. Like they'll say shit like "whats for lunch Tankie? Rice?" but get really fucking mad if anyone implies that black people like fried chicken.

White people are constantly looking for an acceptable outlet for their racism and the media is too happy to give them one

Both East and South Asian communities are cursed with large contingents of people who don't want to rock the boat under any circumstances.

Perhaps understandable for new immigrants who are a tiny slip from being deported, but not good when passed on through the generations.

Yeah online is a different beast. In person I guess they just…shrug and change the topic. White cons are much more open about their hatred and “cultural differences” etc.

I dont really bother talking to white liberals online. With that said my encounters with them in real life haven´t been thaaat bad. I usually dont lead with lets do a communism but try to highlight that a better world is possible.

Most of the libs I know are management, as I live in a rural area. I make jokes about having sex with their significant others. Politics don't really come up.

I feel like some people are legit the giant baby in Spirited Away. Like, not innocent, but willfully blocking out any info that breaks the facade of their padded suburb so they don't have to think about the corpses under it. Even middle class people seem to desire to preserve their sanity by rationalizing away the contradictions.

I had some success with radicalizing my neighbors in Brooklyn and I credit it to no small part with that I'm both Swedish and brown. This is a super combo for libs. I tick off other lib credentials as well such as I'm an engineer and my wife is a STEM professor. They usually refer to racism as the main reason why social improvement is impossible in the US and they become amazed to learn that Sweden has an immigrant population of about 30%.

So when I say, "Why don't you just fire police officers who have been involved in deadly shootings (no matter how justified it was)? Wouldn't that help? Of course but they object that that is impossible, I then point out that "Well, there you go - it's not racism that is the main problem then".

Now they are all miserable. Yay, me!

I find they will listen to you sympathetically and nod along as you recount your experience of your nation being destroyed by imperialism, but then as soon as the conversation is done they will wipe it and go right back to libposting about democracy and rules based order. Nothing sticks. They have an amazing ability to compartmentalize, and to understand that US foreign policy is devastating but also that we should keep doing it
