After a liberalization period following the Russian Revolution, the Stalin-era Soviet Union drastically restricted women’s right to abortion. But in the 1950s Soviet women won free and legal terminations — achieving the right to choose before almost all of their sisters in the West.

the USSR was better. overthrow the oligarchy and bring about communism, oppressed women of the West!

    Jacobin can only compliment the USSR if the topic gives a means to rightly or wrongly shit talk Stalin. More rightly in this case, but it is interesting how selective they are. Like the rollback of civil liberties like abortion and gay rights during the 30s was shit, but still they need to make Stalin's USSR into a different entity
