If every "mass shooter" had to use homemade pipeguns they would get owned by a couple people jumping on them within 30 seconds of the first shot, just like this shooter was.

It's such a stupid argument against regulation. Not that I'm even for regulation given that the left in the US needs guns to defend itself now, but still.

it's because it's not about having a principled argument about the guns, saying "what good was gun control for them" is a coping mechanism; and when you disagree with them, you're not making a point, you're taking their blanky away

It's actually so funny to see "gun control doesn't work" guys commenting about the assassination. Japan has had fewer gun homicides this year than the average number of daily gun homicides in the US in 2021. By like a factor of 15.

One thing about the statistics that i think people get wrong is that they compare "firearm deaths" when surely the thing we should be comparing between countries is overall violence. The most useful statistic for this would be what the UN calls "non-conflict deaths", which includes all homicides, suicides, police shootings, executions etc, but I can't seem to find the most recent data on that on a country by country level.

assassinating a conservative politician is kind of just cosplaying with a lot of extra steps, if you don't stop to think about it.

Oh, I wouldn't disagree. There's no clear theory behind this behavior at all.

for sure. the stochastic violence just sometimes lands the chuds in the crosshairs.

Gun control works. It controls guns.

Now, is the ability to level suppressing-fire at a mansion worth the constant Fascist massacres? I have no fucking clue. I know gun-reduction would be a hell of a challenging proposition in the US, but I also know infantry isn't the value proposition that it used to be.

    In any case, 💀🐷🥳

one of the really interesting things to me is that it sounds like he didn't try to get into a shootout with police or anything. please correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like he killed Abe and then just surrendered.

it's hard to tell from the recordings we do have, but yeah, if the guy was planning a shoot-out, he wouldn't bring a 2-shot gun, shoot both slugs into Abe then throw it away, before promptly being tackled, didn't even bring a knife or anything; we know he had another gun that looked like it had a capacity to shoot 9 slugs, but didn't bring it

it's interesting because it suggests a very different sort of mentality than we're "used to" from events like this. like, it was very specifically an assassination and NOT terrorism.

from what i've seen of Japanese police, they don't tend to kill people if they can possibly avoid it, despite all of them having a sidearm

watched one video of a cop pulling out a baton and fighting a guy who had a big fuck off knife
in america he would have just shot the guy

I guess all the gun control means that if you're going to shoot someone, you better pick a good target lol
