Can an American explain what the deal is with the stars on the flag. Why do some of those flags have a mass of stars filling the little blue box while others have a ring of stars?
Mass of 50 stars is for the 50 states we’ve had since Hawai’i was admitted in 1959. The ring is one of the flags used in the war against Britain, back when there were only 13 states (there was no unified design back then, but it was one of the most popular. Folk history attributes this particular design to a seamstress named Betsy Ross, but most historians believe that was made up).

The ring is an older design, fewer stars from back when there were fewer states
Back when all the stars allowed chattel slavery
:JB-shining-aggro:
Wherever a large enough group of crackers coalesced, they would do a mini third impact and form a new state.
After which the Great Satan would add another star to its flag.
