It's unclear if the Senate will take up the legislation, as Democratic leaders remained noncommittal on Tuesday. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said he would personally support putting it on the floor, but questioned whether there's enough time on the calendar with the Senate set to go on an extended recess in two weeks and two huge party priorities to finish before then.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer would not say Tuesday if there would be a floor vote but said, “we're going to look at everything we can do.”
THE HOUSE ACTUALLY PASSED IT. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS WHAT THEY'RE COMING FOR NEXT, BUT HE WANTS TO FOCUS ON PARTY PRIORITIES. BITCH HOW IS THIS NOT A PRIORITY?
AHHHHH :this-is-fine:
I'm definitely not against working with socialist orgs, I'm just not so convinced on electoralism is all (ironically I mod !electoralism). Organizing is always a good thing
Again I agree with you that voting is not going to solve the world's issues. Forgive me if you've seen this quote before but reading this is what made me believe that voting for socialists is still worth the effort anyway (barring like 8hr voter suppression lines on a workday of course):
It's from here: https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/communist-league/1850-ad1.htm
(I would suggest just Ctrl-F bc this doc is long as hell haha)
besides the point that Marx makes in that quote, elections are also useful to revolutionary parties because they can serve as a soap box. if even a single candidate stands out and is popular that is already a huge win for the party, no matter if they get elected or not.
