gcj post making fun of this man

Americans have a deep-seated deranged longing to be in a situation where absolute brutality can be hypothetically justified. Self-defense violence fantasies continue to be unhinged. There’s a shitload of supportive comments in the AMA too.

If you jump over the counter I’m assuming you’re going to kill me. The last thing I’m thinking about is communism or the prison industrial complex or your material conditions or whatever.

    Can you explain why?

You ever been in a fight? Things happen very very very fast. Most people don't realize if they've been stabbed until a couple of minutes later because a knife goes in and out of you so fast you barely feel it until the adrenaline starts to wear down. A lot of people never even see the knife because really how visible is four inches of steel sticking out of someone's fist? A gun could come out of nowhere with no real warning.

Or someone could just knock you down and kick you in the head until you die. Hell, some kid in I think Spain died the other day bc a guy he was in a shouting match with shoved or punched him and he fell down and hit his head. Fractured skull. Died of cerebral hemorrhage about 20 hours later. Only got hit once and the hit itself didn't even do much damage, the fall did.

If someone comes at you unexpectedly you should assume that they're going to hurt you and do everything in your power to defend yourself without concern for the attackers safety or welfare. You can give them first aid once they're incapacitated if you want.

I cannot emphasize enough how little time you have to make critical assessments like "Does this guy have a knife?" "Does this guy have a blunt object?" "Can I run away?" "Can I get to a safe place?" Time slows down, most people either freeze or react on pure subconscious instinct mode.

And this all gets multiplied if you're old, or a woman, or disabled, or just a smaller person facing a larger person. If your attacker has a physical advantage over you your situation just got exponentially worse and it becomes that much more important that you use overwhelming violence to gain control of the situation so you can either fight off your assailant or create room to escape. You're not even trying to hurt them, that's not the goal; The goal is to shock them out of their "I'm the attacker and I'm in control" mindset so you have room to act, either to put them on the defensive so you can put them out of the fight, or to give yourself space to make a break for it.

I should say; If you're going to rob someone there is still some social contract shit incumbent on you. You need to be a good robber. If you're holding a knife to someone's gut or have a loaded gun pointed at someone's head you're not robinhood anymore. You're directly and immediately threatening their life and they're well within their rights to fight you with no regard for your safety.

Yes, you should comply with a robber and just give them whatever they want, but the robber has an obligation to take your safety seriously while they're robbing you. It's a two way street. We're all getting fucked by the system but you want to be robin hood you can't be a menace to other poor people.

A threat to me in any context is a binary choice between them or me. I choose me. It's the same moral logic that I employ any time a hunter is mauled to death by the animal they chose to hunt. Fuck 'em, learning occurred.

Are they robbing you or are they robbing the store? If they are robbing the store what exactly is the problem with just giving them whatever is in the store, which is probably company policy anyways?

Have you been watching a bunch of videos of "Store Robberies Gone Wrong" or something of that nature, lately?

who they are robbing would be irrelevant, they're in your face and threatening you
and you can't know if they will just take the stuff and leave, or harm you even if you gave them what they wanted

disclaimer: the dude in the video is a psychopath who did not need to stab the guy
