Just remembered that they're very particular about this speed in Back to the Future. Do I have paranoid brain worms or were the producers fash?

    I think it’s one of two things: Either because “8” is used as a symbol for infinity because it looks like one or because, on an LCD display, an “8” has every possible light on, giving the appearance of being “maxed-out”

    And then it’s two 8s specifically because 8 mph would be too slow and 888 mph would be too fast for a car to reach. 88 is fast but perfectly achievable (for a good car)
