In what fucking reality is this an arrestable crime and not just a "swim at your own risk"?

It's a problem for everyone if a random corpse is right by the city, but just making people leave is enough

Just having a corpse floating in the water is not great. The government trying to prevent that is a good thing.

Right but arresting people for swimming pretty much isn't normal at all anywhere I've ever seen besides like.. dams and places where currents are crazy. Are surfers arrested for surfing? This is absurd on its face

Yeah, that's why I already said the solution is to just make people leave. Most people will just leave if a cop goes "okay, you can't be here. Go home." It's not worth the hassle to try to fight it, but there's no real consequences for the person who was told to leave.

The cops will kill you if you don't put up with it, and the media will either suppress it or use it to activate the bloodthirster gene in the average American to keep the status quo maintained.

Am I losing it or are cops becoming a socially acceptable welfare program?

Don't want to work? Become a cop and make easy money. Hell, you're gonna get jacked off by everyone too while you're at it!

      Always have been. :astronaut-1:

the function of the cops is to protect bourgeois private property. therefore the cops are given a status above the regular civilians to incentivize that they stay loyal to the bourgeoisie. They're a sort of "warrior caste". They reinforce this through training. "we're sheepdogs! regular people are sheep! criminals are wolves!" Cops are also permitted strong unions, and to be universally armed, since their job is to union bust and confiscate arms. They are given the very privileges they deprive others of, as a bribe. They throw people in jail for drugs, yet they're always getting high at the evidence warehouse. Curious. :thinkin-lenin:

Here's my hot take: If your going to become a cop, try to be an environment conservation officer. Atleast then you have the thin veneer of enforcing environmental conservation laws.

Didn’t they literally fly a fucking helicopter out there to tell people to get out of the water at some point?

Thank goodness capitalism has given us a brutal police state to protect us from the ecological catastrophe that capitalism also gave us. :is-this: historical materialism?

Mankind thus inevitably sets itself only such tasks as it is able to solve, since closer examination will always show that the problem itself arises only when the material conditions for its solution are already present or at least in the course of formation.

There a law against swimming without a babysitter?

And it's one of the laws the cops actually care about enforcing?

And they arrest people and put them in handcuffs like they're dangerous violent criminals instead of just writing tickets?

What kind of cartoonishly evil country is that?
