I fully believe the voting age should be lowered to 13, and age to run for office down to 16 (or some sort of parallel system of “children’s councils” that have real political power). I would trust a random 16 year old in literally any political office over a random 70 year old.
Young people, including minors, should have more political power than other groups, not less, since they have to live with the consequences. If you’re 80 I hardly even think you should be allowed to vote, let alone run for office.
Don’t order food for the group when you’re about to leave the table.
And yet I couldn’t reasonably argue for raising the driving age either since you need to drive to do anything in this god forsaken country. For teenagers to have anywhere near the level of autonomy they should have they have to be able to drive.
To me cars represent the opposite of freedom. To even drive one you need to be old enough and not disabled. You need to afford to buy one and maintain it. If you use it to go somewhere you need to make sure you have a place to park. And you’re not free to do what you want when you get to your destination since you need to be sober to drive home.
True freedom is stumbling drunk onto the subway at 2am and getting home for $3.

yeah being a minor in the USA is brutal. They throw you on the roads and then dont let you drink for 5 more years lol
