I'm gonna edit the dream a little bit but overall it was basically this...
Story takes place before Fidel died, so let's say the early 2010s. Bank robber gets a hold of a Che biography and is so moved that he becomes a commie. Robber comes to adore Che. One day he sees Felix Rodriguez (the bastard who murdered Che) wearing Che's wristwatch like a trophy on TV during an interview. Our hero becomes overwhelmed with rage. He assembles his crew to steal the watch back. In my dream they just break into his house and beat the shit out of Rodriguez, so for an actual movie we might need to workshop that a bit. Then the crew goes to Havana and presents the watch to Fidel and Raul, who cry tears of joy.
Fin.
Leftist heist movie ideas:
It's just the 1907 Tiflis bank robbery.
A modern revolutionary group steals money from a bank to finance itself.
Modern day Robin Hood reboot. It's played mostly straight, but he keeps quoting communists and anarchists.
Modern day Robin Hood reboot. His band of merry men are clearly coded as being the Black Panthers. The movie opens with them stealing a semi full of food to keep their soup kitchen running, but when the state threatens to shut them down on bullshit charges, they plan the big heist of the movie: robbing a gun store to get enough guns to scare away the police.
Robin hood was a monarchist nerd who wanted lower taxes though
I guess the point is to change that
This is the the first time I've ever heard of this so I don't think we need to change anything lol. Pop culture Robin Hood is 100% a commie somehow.
Yes, but he's something as rare under capitalism as a popular cultural icon of violent redistribution of wealth. People remember him for taking from the rich and giving to the poor, not for the medieval monarchism thing. It would be foolish of us onthe left not to claim him as our own.
And in a modern reboot the monarchism part wouldn't make sense anyways. Maybe modern Robin's thing could even be to restore a legitimate socialist government that was toppled by US imperialism?
True
Robin Hood lived under feudalism where the taxes were how the ruling class stole the surplus value from the peasantry though, it's not the same as wanting lower taxes in a modern society.
Yeah, it's tricky. I'm trying to write a communist adjacent medieval play but the problem is exactly this. The peasants want less taxes, but a modern viewer will just interpret it libertarianly unless I'm very careful and on the nose.
