I recently found myself on the end of reddit's permaban, no new accounts will work, VPNs don't work either. All accounts are banned within 24 hours.

Get yourself a VM setup and the accounts won't be banned though. Easy. All you need is to get Oracle, run the default setup wizard and have an iso file for the operating system.

Hope this helps other comrades still performing praxis there.

Hold on, if a VM works then that implies they are mainly using a combination of IP address and the "User-Agent" header to identify you, which includes basically your os version and browser, and is way easier to spoof than using a virtual machine. Try this extension to change what user-agent chrome sends: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-for-c/djflhoibgkdhkhhcedjiklpkjnoahfmg?hl=en-US

You can also use that to make your own user-agents, though they may validate that it's a sane looking user agent.

I'll give it a whirl. You think this needs combining with VPN?

In my experience it's between 12-24 hours for an account to get banned, so I'll get back to you around then.

Interesting. I wasn't using the VM with a VPN and no ban has been applied to those accounts.

Wonder how they find you behind a VPN? Maybe a dumb question these days but did you clear your cookies? I know Bungie.net used to use a cookie to detect ban evaders, I don't see why that couldn't still be used as a supplemental method by reddit.

My assumption is browser fingerprinting. I haven't tried testing on Edge instead of Chrome yet partly because it makes me feel very dirty.

I highly recommend you try Firefox. Not only is it a good browser, but it's made by a not-for-profit and your data won't go directly to Microsoft/Google.
