https://www.protondb.com/ will tell you if your games won't work on :tux:
Most games run on Linux and sometimes even better than on :windows-cool:
A large modern program probably has more total labor-hours put into it than medieval cathedrals. Google Chrome is the Dark Temple of the Antichrist.
Most games run on Linux - sure
Do games I actually want to play run on Linux - Not so much
Compatibility is getting better at like a breakneck speed at this point. I just poked around the database and I'm probably going to switch next time I need to do something massive with my PC.
I'd check the database if you haven't, you might be surprised.
I like Linux but personally I still duel boot and I still suggest windows to new builders if gaming. I get that it's getting better with game compatibility but there's still issues and plenty of games where you'll lose some frames because of the os you're on. If I have to shell out half my souls for a graphics card I'm keeping those gains. Like I pirate windows anyway, turn off what I can privacy wise that doesn't have negative impacts and then just kinda bite the bullet on the rest. I'm early 30s person who owns a cell phone and uses the Internet. There's nothing windows/Microsoft is pulling from me that's not already out there. Not to excuse how shitty it is that that's how things are but it is.
someday i'll learn how to BSD. it'd be nice to know some of the lower level maintenance for my OPNsense router
plan on getting an SSD on Black Friday solely for dual booting. started coding and the linux experience is so, so much better. i'm still not well versed with Linux (well, the terminal lol) and not all games i want to play are available, so i'll dual boot for now, but i def plan on making the switch in the future. :tux:
Nobody is actually good at the terminal. All you need is
cd, ls, cat, |, <, >
. Anyone talks to you aboutawk
you walk away.
Hoodie is meant to mean "for hackers" like how in movies hackers are depicted as wearing a hoodie and hiding in a dark room.
Kali (fka backtrack) is a distro that comes prepackaged with a bunch of exploit software. A lot of wannabe hackers install it as their main OS. The thing is that Kali is not really intended to be a "daily driver" OS, not intended for casual use or browsing. For example, Kali runs everything as root which is very bad security practice. Kali is intended to be a distro that you boot from a USB stick when you need to do a quick exploit and that's it.
The fact of the matter is, however, that Kali is a Linux distribution specifically geared towards professional penetration testers and security specialists, and given its unique nature, it is NOT a recommended distribution if you’re unfamiliar with Linux or are looking for a general-purpose Linux desktop distribution for development, web design, gaming, etc.

my experience with proton and steamdeck has been near flawless and my pc doesnt even get turned on anymore.
A few games i had major trouble with on windows miraculously work better on steam deck.
Gaming is haram. If you have free time, you should be reading the man pages.
