There's no excuse for being toxic and abusive to your spouse but I can sympathize with most boomers getting bullied by society into getting married and having children as soon as you're a functional adult. I have a hunch that a huge chunk of older married couples didn't really want to be together for life.

Probably he married her and then after years of living with her started to find some of her habits her irritating. Rather than rise above it, find a hobby to keep him out of the house, or communicate his needs maturely he seems to have decided to instead seeth with resentment and bitch about her.

    0/10 bad spousing skill issue

My mom apparently found out she was pregnant and guilt tripped my dad into marriage. He had been briefly married once but walked in on the first wife giving some guy a blow job in their living room.

that almost happened to me once so I do understand that, if you're girlfriend has a family that wouldn't accept her if she got pregnant and didn't marry or couldn't support herself with a kid while single there is definite pressure that can't be simply waved away.

Fortunately in my case it was just a scare

:grillman: are all about righteous misery. That's also why they police entire neighborhoods to make sure there's enough glyphosate sprayed everywhere and enough unpaid hours of toil for everyone to conform to rectangles of fuzzy green patriot concrete on each yard, too.

I haven't spoken to her in about 5 years, she's not a particularly good person and once told me I was a mooch for accepting the sweet, sweet $1500 a year in FAFSA money when I went back to school. Didn't appreciate me reminding her that she maxed out her credit cards buying scuba equipment before filing for bankruptcy.

Sometimes I do feel bad for boomers but like c'mon, you didn't have to marry anyone, no one had a gun to your head. Boomers and miserable partnerships is just so common.

Maybe in years past but capital doesn't need stable households anymore. They can just import cheap office labor (if it can't be offshored) and push kids from broken homes into the service industry.

Weirdly enough, the gender ratio is about 1:1, so for every married woman there's approximately 1 married man.

My dad is like the inverse of this. My mother had a severe shift in her mental state in the 2000s, and is now deeply mentally ill, but he puts everything he can and has into caring for her as much as he can. Genuinely inspirational, but I worry he perhaps cares too much to actually force her into getting the help she needs but aggressively refuses.
