    I always did thing Cracker is kind of a non-slur.

      There's some speculation that cracker originates from "whip cracker" but because it was originally used by rich southern elite to refer to the poor whites thats probably not true.

        Well aware, but that's not a good slur, is it?

        "haha, your kind used to own people" doesn't really work to denigrate someone

          I really don't think there's anything that applies to white people then, right? Since for it to be a slur, you'd kind of need to punch down, and at least in any cultural context I'm familiar with there's no situation where you could be punching down on white people in general, maybe only against some blue collar types.

            On a smaller scale it could happen, for example a school with 90% black kids where white kids get bullied and no authority figure takes it seriously. On a systemic scale it's not really a thing though.
